This is an interesting little unreported tidbit i had never heard of. The article is hard to read and understand, but i am fairly sure i have read it right.

On CBZ May 9 1904 is a 3 round meeting between Johnson and Jeanette. What isnt known is that it seems that on the same night, Johnson also fought Walter Johnson. Also, johnson failed to KO jeanette which seems to have been what he promised to do.

Sorry this is hard to read it is translated across two columns.

    From Boston Daily Globe.

Jack the colored heavy weight with championship got another setback last night in Phila With a great trumpets the public was invited to gather and witness the mighty Johnson administer painful doses of somnolence to two other The person placed in the ring ns a proposed victim for tho mighty Johnson was named Joe Jeanette Ho Is a stock colored

Johnson was find Jean ette still there the first round Ho was angry to see Jeanetta bobbing about four minutes Johnson was amazed and discom find unable to complete his In the third Then Walter Johnson was placed in the He was a great fighter in his but that was some years Ho kept his namesake busy for threes but in the third he walked Into a punch that put him But the mighty Jack Johnson naa failed to turn the as the first held hfs own and the conditions were that Johnson waa to knock out both

This one seems to report the Dec 2 Joe Jeanette Johnson fight. It was a No Decision fight technically, but it certainly sounds like Johnson deserved the decision.

B, I think this is the 1905 9th of May fight between the two, their first meeting.

Its the same date albeit a different year. ,and the same city, the same conditions, ie ,two opponents on the same night that he had to ko inside 3 rounds.

Jeannette was floored 3 times in the first round, but managed to go the distance, some say he held his own ,one or two others said he was in survival mode for the 2nd and 3rd rnds.

Either way, Mendopey will wet himself when he reads this.

Here is Box rec's account of their inital 1905 encounter.

"Johnson - who attempted to knock out the first of two men on this card - dropped Jeannette three times in round 1, but after that his opponent stuck it out and gave as much as he took. In the end both the New York Evening World and the Washington Times declared it a very even fight."
    Below, from Box rec
    Walter Johnson's record.
Jack Johnson kod him in the 3rd and last round. Walter fought Jeannette a few months later.[bottom ]

"Johnson defends world 'colored' heavyweight title. Earlier on this card he had fought a 3-rounder with Joe Jeannette"

"Joe Jeanette(sic) and Walter Johnson, two colored heavyweights, had it out. In the second round Jeanette let fly a hard right, and Johnson reeled toward the ropes." This appears to signify a TKO and is changed as such until any more authoritative report can be located. NY Sun"

I think either Jeanette or Johnson said they fought about 15 times so there could be a few unrecorded or it could be exaggerated

Interesting. It certainly sounds like you may be correct, with the paper put in on the wrong year (or maybe even i made a mistake). It sounds like a coincidence to have to dates the same. I am not really sure either way.

This constant exposing these little nonsense gems of Jennette past is just Dumb, why would this be a story at all if not for Jennette's stand vs Johnson when he had less the a yr's experience vs Johnson who not only had advantage's of height, weight but had vast ring experience 7-9 yrs depending on when Johnson turned pro. Since some people are just plain stubborn and wont accept the truth of the matter.
    Think of it this way:
Muhammad Ali 38 fights vs Joe Jennette 1-3
Joe Louis 38 fights vs Joe Jennette 1-3
Ezzard Charles 38 fights vs Joe Jennette 1-3
Jersey Joe Walcott 38 fights vs Joe Jennette 1-3
Floyd Patterson 38 fights vs Joe Jennette 1-3
Then imagine we are discussing Ali, Louis, Charles, JJW, Patterson's great win over Jennette, please. Why not accept that this was a mismatch going in, that Jennette stood up even after being KD is the story. Jennette standing up is the story. Jennette ending the series with a draw, is the story, not Johnson beating Jennette. Some here think this is a great accomplishment and keep posting the same things over and over.
Why not discuss that this was a mismatch and that Johnson had all the advantages and Jennette had none but a huge set of ba lls.

Jennette was in his sixties weight-wise when he first fought Johnson and Johnson around 185-190, there are many reports that say Jennette was a MW-LHW, in fact I went into the newspaper archives which anyone can do and find out that Jennette was a heavy MW at most, I found 11 articles, from that time 8 said he was a MW 3 said he was a LHW. This so-called expert wanna be leaves these out and instead posts the mistake riddled report that said Johnson was 205 and Jennette was 185, he also made a mistake on their height and reach. But this is what they hang their hats on, totally inane. This series of fights with Jennette wouldnt be a story or something to brag about in any other era and would be put down as the 38 fight pro who also had height, weight and experience, was cherry picking opponents, and wouldnt even be considered anything but just another meaningless win.

You're arguing about a post that is 5 years old!
Ridiculous doesn't begin to cover it. How long have you had this obsessive behaviour?
I'm going to let you into a little secret now.
I could not give flying f*ck about Joe Jeannette's reputation/legacy ,one way or the other.
I have absolutely zero interest as to how others perceive him, just as I have absolutely no desire to influence their opinions of him , either negatively or positively.
If any want to call him the greatest heavyweight that ever lived that's perfectly fine by me,if any want to call him a pile of sh*t that's fine with me too!
    I just could not give a f*ck.
I wont make any more threads here because with pathological stalkers such as yourself, who have the IQ of a chimp with learning difficulties there is no point as the subject of the thread is ignored completely anyway.
You want to be Jeannette's self appointed Keeper Of The Flame ?
That's fine with me too, just do it on your own time because ,in case you haven't noticed , no one actually gives a sh*t!
I've no interest in posting on that clip,I know the provenance of it and I know that Johnson did it for free, whereas Jeannette demanded and was paid. Paid before he would leave his garage business for the time required to film it. No,I've no interest in it, just as I've no interest in your opinion.
