Just as he slayed Jack O'Brien to a draw?

    Yet, you comment regardless.

Burns wouldn't win a round versus Joe. Burns was cute with that right hand but only because he fought guys who wouldn't win at the corner bar in the modern era.

Absolutely correct. But what victim on JC's 168 pound resume and which of his performances would indicate he would have beaten Johnson?

The general thought among Boxing fans, which I agree with, is that Joe Calzaghe's talent and ability far out weighs his resume. He could and probably should of accomplished so much more.

The holes in his resume make it difficult for me to answer that, so I'll take another route. Joe Calzaghe looked poor sometimes, when he fought a very low quality opponent; on the otherhand, when he took on a Lacy or a Kessler, or even a Jones he looked great, I would attribute this to motivation.

Against Jack Johnson, Joe would undoubtedly be motivated. Stylistically he matches up very well, solid chin, activity and able to make fantastic subtle adjustments throughout the fight.

I'm going on gut feeling and personal observation rather than set examples, which really is the beauty of Boxing, we'll never know; but it's fun to objectively speculate :good

Did somebody say Joe would be Jeffries? Even the Jeffries that showed up in Reno would walk Joe down eventually and it would end in a brutal, and I mean brutal stoppage. Joe would have NO chance to survive against a fighter like Jeffries for THAT many rounds. No way no how.

I'm curious... I see people mention Fitz... when did Johnson beat Fitz again?

Johnson was just off his championship winning effort against O'Brien, weighed in at a fit and trim 205 pounds. This is the prime version of which I always hear in head to head debates... yet Jack was timid and outworked over six rounds. Could Calzaghe, a much better trained and talented fighter than O'Brien, pull off this feat over 10 rounds?

Seamus, the fact that you think Joe could be substituted in for Johnson and pull of the victory against that Jeffries.. is well, kinda not like you

Why would he bother to try?

It would be an ND fight, where he could only win if he got a knockout.

Unless you are Jack Dempsey, you loose this fight by default.

Then you ask why you even signed for it!
