Johnson retired between rounds in 2 fights ,against Bob Lawson on 30th May 1926 he had been floored in the 7th round.Johnson was 48 years old

He also retired against Bill Hartwell 2 years later, Johnson broke his hand in the 2nd round but continued until the end of the 6th round, Johnson was 50 years old.Less than a month later, Hartwell stopped Larry Gains in 6 rds.

Bottle is what Johnson displayed when he went into the ring with Jeffries at Reno with thousands of white supporters baying for his blood.

Johnson had been shot at 2 nights before while sitting on the porch of his training camp.
Knowing there were countless rabid Jeffries supporters in the crowd, [similar to your self,] Johnson stipulated that the ring apron had to be extended outside the ropes for his safety. There's something you didn't know.

Bottle is what he displayed when ,at the age of 35 he struggled through 10rounds to a draw with a broken arm

Bottle is what he displayed when he went 26rds, for 75 minutes in conditions his giant opponent stated were as hot as hell.

Bottle is what Vitali KLitschko DID NOT display when at the age of 28 he quit cold against a feather dusted opponent in a fight he was winning.

Bottle is what you DO NOT POSSESS.

Facts? Here's one, bottle is an old cockney expression derived from "bottle and glass" which rhymes with arse,as in lack of bottle .

You know, what you displayed when you sneaked into the UK and left, just as anonymously, without notifying me you were here.
IN cockney vernacular ,you displayed a lack of ARSEHOLE.

How do you like those facts?

Well put, it's not like Johnson ever got KTFO by middleweights himself.

Granted he was short, skinny or weak, he was not.

As to you disparaging the athletic abilites of the likes of Burns, he was athletic enough to play pro lacrosse for a Detroit team.

Don't know if they were or not, and neither do you. What I do know is that there were athletic marvels in 1898 just like there were in 1998. There have always been people that much more athletically gifted than the majority of people. It doesn't matter if they were as good then as now, because many variables have increased performaces for athletes of today. Make no mistake though, there were still gifted athletes then whether they were on the Lacrosse team or not.

I'm of the opinion that you can only be as good as your era allows.
I know nothing about lacrosse but would assume it was popular and competitive. In the 1800's Princeton, Columbia ,Harvard, Yale ,and New York universities all had teams . You seem to believe that before WW11 everyone walked around in bearskins, and carried clubs.
