Evander peppers Johnson at range under the modern ruleset, but under Johnson’s ruleset I can see Jack winning a dull clinchfest.

Well really I’d expect Jack Johnson to shut him down with his inside fighting and negative style. He’s just a cagey annoying guy to fight - I imagine. Not overly busy but that just makes him hard to get to.
On the inside it’s different and I expect Holyfield to keep falling into that and getting beat up or just following Johnson around.

Holyfield uses his head and shows him what the rough stuff is all about. He's also a better boxer and stronger than JJ. Good luck to the Galveston Midget

I don't see Johnson having too good of a chance here under modern rules.

Who says it has to be under modern rules, though?

It doesn't have to be, that's why I specified.

So how do you see it as a 20-rounder, outdoors with Johnson’s era rules?

Holyfield would funk up Johnson something serious.

He could very well be arrested for murder.

The more lax you make the ruleset, the more it favors Holyfield to me. He was a master of disguising headbutts and other dirty tricks. And when it comes to punching, which would still be most of the fight's offense from both sides, Holyfield is miles ahead. Holyfield gets it done.

Holyfield beats him under any and all rulesets. Johnson was smaller and not equipped for a technical combo puncher with Vander's kick.

Considering he punched himself to a virtual standstill just to get rid of freaking Bert Cooper, I highly doubt it.
