I meant Charles is widely regarded, or almost unanimously accepted, as the greatest LHW ever... That you think Foster would KO Charles is your opinion, and you're entitled to it.
well, it is basing on his legacy and career, but 2 men in a fight is other history, marciano is higher than foreman or liston in the history but they probably would absolutely destroy him. larry holmes is higher than tyson in the history and i think that a prime tyson would stop prime holmes. and yes i think that foster would knock charles out.
I understand your logic, but this is a thread about Johnson vs Charles. I see this as closer than most members that have posted, but Ezzard has a real shot here. Why don't you start a thread about Charles vs Foster or whoever if you want to discuss those matters. I don't want to detract from the subject of this thread.
Johnson would get aggressive (he did and was brutal in doing so) and eventually stop Charles in the later rounds, while down on points. Especially if the rules are from his era, it would likely be earlier. I just get the feeling Johnson's ring IQ, excellent reflexes, and clear strength advantage would eventually carry the day.
Charles by UD. Johnson would pay for his low guard, low punch output, safety style. Charles is 10X as skilled as Johnson's filmed opponents. And he can punch hard for his weight.
I wouldn't say that Charles is 10 times as skilled as Langford. Burns wasn't close to Charles as a fighter but he was also very skilled boxer.
I wouldn't say he 2 times as skilled as Langford. He was more skilled but Langford was a high quality operator and is an top 5 ATG and H2H beast
I did not say Langford by name, but Johnson's win over Langford needs to be put into perspective. Langford was estimated to be 20 years old, and 156 pounds! Charles was far more skilled that that version of Langford. Johnson had a signed contract to fight a more experienced and much heavier Langford in 1909. They had a signed contract to meet. Johnson broke the agreement and stayed away from Langford for the rest of his tenure as champion. I agree Burns wasn't close to Charles and at 168 pounds was too light and too short. We are talking prime for prime here, so Charles in the mid 180's-192 and Johnson at 190-205. The hight and the reach are very close, slight edge to Johnson. Quality of opposition beaten...Charles to me. Walcott, Ray, Bivins, Moore, Louis, Maxim, ect... Johnson's big wins when you look at them are not as big. Mcvey, a green teenager. Jeannette a novice with a sometimes losing record when then meet. Jeffries, old and out of the ring for 6 year. Burns, and Martin are probably his best wins. It would be a good match, but I like Charles based on his skills, and punch output. Johnson is not likely stopping him. Charles went to war and the distance with Marciano. A decent hitter for his size, with a huge heart, and skills, Johnson never beat anyone like him.
