You've reiterated two statements I have already made on this thread regarding mauling, clinching ,and spoiling and Wills strength. Do you actually read others comments, or do you start to foam at the mouth and dash off a riposte without digesting what they have typed? Who says Johnson got a gift over Battling Jim in Paris? Reports state Johnson, Jack that is ,was coming on strong at the end. Oh by the way you want to compare a fat 35 years old Johnson ,a Johnson who had not fought in nearly a year and a half, who was dissipated and on the run from his own country with a Wills who was having his second fight in 3 months having gone 15 rds in the other? Is it also permissable to mention that Johnson was fighting with a broken arm? atsch Wills ,a health nut was never was out of shape ,and did not drink or smoke. Wills did nothing with Firpo that a 44 years old Johnson did not do in sparring ,so badly did Johnson embarrass Firpo that Rickard sacked him because he said he would "kill the fight". If you want comparisons I'll give you one. In the fight that you referred to namely Jack Johnson against Battling Jim Johnson, a 35 years old, fat Jack who had not fought in a year and half, broke his arm in the second round yet struggled through the pain to a draw. A 28 years old Harry Wills fighting the same opponent broke his wrist against him ,again in the second rd and promptly quit. I suppose that's just another of my stories though eh? I imagine the maker of this thread wants us to pick a winner from two PRIME men, that being the case I pick Johnson 7 days a week. By the way thanks for admitting I was right about Wills being sacked by Johnson, I some how missed your retraction.
I'm honestly not sure how people give Wills so good of a chance prime for prime. Most everybody who saw both thought Johnson was better and would win.
Funnily enough Wills appears ,[ from the limted footage ,] to be a less polished version of Johnson, only my take on him.
Very gracious of you H.E. don't take too long , agreeing with each others posts is not a condition of appreciating the others contributions.. You always keep on my mettle .
What an @ss Johnson was. Mocking and picking on the weak, then avoiding those he bulled and mocked in the ring when they matured into their primes as fighters. I wonder what Jeannette, Langford, and Wills said / thought when Willard put Johnson out for the count? Does anyone have news clips on what they said?
