Although outsized (although Tommy Burns was a stumpy super-middle..), does Julian have the timing, speed & pinpoint power to knock Jack Johnson out with one punch..? Or is Johnson the all time p4p master at catching single shots all night long..?
Johnson was too big, too strong, too clever, would smother JJ's punches, squeeze JJ's biceps until he ached, would probably not get caught like he did with Ketchel, and more than likely would have leaned on his man, and used other tricks to tire out and wear out Jackson...leading to a 10th round knockout or tko.
I think boxing evolved that much from Jackson to Johnson's time there's a good chance Julian lays him out.
Johnson kills him, too big and strong. The Ketchel "knockdown" was an act. Johnson may not have been as great as the legend would have in, relative to other heavyweight champions, but he's too much for Julian Jackson.
Maybe a theoretical 1 out of 50 times Jackson could catch him... as Georgie Benton said, any 160 pounder can KO any other man. However, Jackson found McClellan to be too big to really enforce his style on. Even a bigger middle in Tate was able to last the distance. Add to that Johnson's cleverness and reflexes... it ain't going to happen.
Just the sort of weird, off-the-wall match-up I love about eastside's classical forum. Ketchel chinned 175 pounders, he got played with by Johnson. Julian would catch a horrible beating before being mercifully finished by Papa Jack in about 6 rounds.
Or Choynski under 170 pounds knocked Johnson out cold. J. Jackson's skills on film are much better than Ketchel's and I think he punches harder than Ketchel too. Johnson has about an 1 inch height advantage and an inch in reach. I'd favor Jack Johnson here via TKO. J. Jackson could not take a punch.
