It's not as simple as many think. If "Quick" Tillis can go 10 rounds in Mike's prime, then Johnson can do better. This is an interesting fight. stamina obviously goes to Johnson. If it was a long fight Johnson wins by decision easily. He had great defense and in that sense he was ahead of his time. Tyson had the speed and power. Johnson had the ring generalship. I would go with Johnson in a long possibly boring contest. Tyson would have a punchers chance. His only chance would be catching Johnson with a tremendous punch early and ending it by knockout. This seems rather unlikely as Johnson had an iron chin and was never knocked out in his prime.
Depends on a few things. Both paradoxically bad for each other. Clinching rules How the ref allows clinches. Johnson might win on the inside. I expect Tyson to fight mid range. Either Johnson waers him down for a late stoppage or Tyson by early round ko
Jack would stop Mike late, but he better be careful not to get caught early, or it's lights out for him.
Mike Tyson KO 1. Everyone in Johnson's era fought as if they were going to go 45 rounds (because some fights were) ... and, as a result, nobody threw much of anything in most rounds. If Johnson stepped out and fought a prime Tyson, the speed, the power and the number of accurate punches Tyson threw to the spots where they did the most damage would blow Johnson's mind. Tyson would wipe out Johnson like he was standing still - which he did ... he stood still. Easy win for Tyson. Johnson might not even land a punch.
This is honestly one fight, where I find either scenario possible! On paper Johnson has the ideal attributes to take down Tyson, but he is also vulnerable to pressure fighters, and he won’t have seen anything like Tyson outside of the lower weight classes. It turns on whether he can understand Tyson, and work out how to time him.
Tyson by brutal, unsympathetic annihilation... Johnson faced single punch swingers who loaded up from across the state line. His parrying and pinching worked well with those types. Tyson's lightning speed and deft combinations would find the target repeatedly and often, maybe not the first punch but the second, third and fourth... for as long as it lasted.
This would look like Tyson vs Holyfield I. Johnson would nail Tyson coming in and then grab on and bully him on the inside and in fight. Once he he caught with something that was hurtful he would let his hands go and end his night.
I have to agree with Seamus. Tyson would close with Johnson and unleash fast powerful and accurate punches that Jack just wasn't accustomed to dealing with. If you look at the films of the time, you don't see one opponent of Johnson's who remotely fought like a prime Tyson. It was one swing at a time, pause, clinch and throw another punch or wide armed swing that Jack could easily avoid. Against Tyson he would be dealing with a 3 or 4 punch combination that would come with alarming speed and accuracy. Could he block that? If he can and he can draw Tyson into a long range contest then his chances of winning....or at least surviving increases, but I just don't see it happening. Possible? Yes. Likely? No.
In close Johnson smothers Tyson and repeatable lands solid uppercuts. Tyson is NOT winning this fight at close quarters. Johnson COULD move well when he wanted so it's absolutely not out of the question that Johnson out boxes Tyson at distance forcing him to get in close to land. In close Tyson is smothered and uppercutted to death. This is repeated round after round until Tyson can take no more. No fighter in boxing history as smart as Johnson in the ring. Conversely once you frustrate Tyson and make him think he loses track, slows down punch volume and becomes a much more ordinary fighter.
