    Which McVey is correct?:lol::lol:

The fact is Johnson was a defensive minded safety first fighter, who opened up when he had the advantage or when the other person was faded. Sometimes he would play around like a jerk when matched vs the very small or old.

    HOWEVER,

When he fought men near his size that were in their prime, he often lost!

Hart, Griffin, Choynski, Klondike, and Willard just to name a few.

And as champion he drew twice, was floored by a middle, and picked one of the worst title opponents of all time in Ross. While never giving the top talents in Langford, McVey, Jeannette, or GB Smith a chance.

Well GB Smith did have a 4 round ex-match vs Johnson, and he knocked papa Jack Silly. Smith was white with ability. Indeed, he beat many of the people Johnson gave title fight to but did not get an offer himself.

To quote the book, you love " And he never forgot it !" -GB Smith in reference to 1909 event

Not to pile on but I didn't get what he was trying to say with that juxtaposition.

Have a look at his post on the Monzon thread in which he ridicules his own mistake believing it is mine. The guy is a MONG!

    What's a Mong?

I mentioned the best five Monzon fought and gave ****ysis. Rather than deal with the facts, you went off tangent. :patsch

There's plenty of material in that thread that spells out that Monzon beat much smaller fighters who moved up, and didn't always look good doing it. Other posters added additional information.:hi:

If you want to debate what I wrote in post #1, it's Nolo Contendre.:D

I already said Valdez who I did not mention could punch some. I also noted his KO ratio as a middle from 1972-1980 was pretty low!

    Mendoza. ahem -

mcvey - "I do believe Johnson could have finished off Burns ,Kaufman,Ferguson,Flynn,Ketchel ,and Jeffries and others earlier had he seriously set bout doing so."

mcvey - "Johnson rarely went for the kill "

Mcveys two statements both support each other, and this is true at any location in the known universe, with one sole exception.

That would be planet K, where meanings are all reversed . Obviously you are still living there. I'm not going to write kliturd self destructs oncea gain. oh I just did.

Answering a question with a question eh? You know better than that Seamus. Still waiting for your answer then... Do you think Johnson could've finished off some of his fights earlier than he did?

As a true empiricist, I believe only in results not in speculative hero worship. The results are the one and only self evident truth.

    Your answer is No.
