What people fail to realize is that in Johnson's era, they didn't go all out every round. There was a lot of moving around the ring and punch stats were a lot lower per round. Just watch any fight from the pre-Dempsey era. Marciano was a swarmer also and Johnson wouldn't be able to stay away from him for 15 rds, Marciano would catch up to him.

Johnson is all wrong for Marciano. Id pick Jack but Id also have to know the ref and rules before I made that pick comfortably. The ref could be a huge factor. Does he let Marciano throw headbutts, low blows, elbows, hit after the bell and on the break? Would the ref let johnson hold, stall, maul, etc?

Insinuating that they wERE close in size is just laughable, johnson was clearly naturally much bigger framed,he could carry 208 pounds in perfect shape. Marciano at 200 was a beach ball

Marciano was significantly smaller than Johnson in the tale of the tape,it isn't arguable. Here is Marciano compared to Tyson.

Ah, but Jack Johnson isn't Mike Tyson.

And, Johnson typically weighed 190-195 when in his prime. Given that Marciano boiled down from a natural weight of over 200 lbs to weights of 185-190, I don't buy the idea that the 6'1", 195lb man holds any real advantage over him in terms of size.

Johnson had his share of fouls too which included low blows, hitting on the break, and hitting and holding.

Mcvey often uses these bait and switch tactics. Agreed, compare them to each other, not Tyson!

Besides, Johnson lost via KO and decision to guys lighter than Rocky. Easy facts.

I am only repeating measurables. And I agree and have stated many times that Marciano's ideal weight was under 190 and any attempt to reformulate him above 200 pounds detracts from his strengths in the ring.

And I am stating that Johnson's best performances were not at 210 pounds. In fact, some of his worst performances were at that weight. I think we have to take the 192 pound version that beat Burns as the best there was.

I never implied he was, I just used that particular one because it had Marciano on it .It's amazing how people are so quick to get their two cents in that they don't take the trouble to actually read a post.:think

Johnson never weighed under 205lbs in defence of his title and he said he was in the best shape of his life when he faced Jeffries for which he weighed 208lbs ,which gives him 20lbs on Marciano.

Because you are illiterate your opinion is discounted before it is offered. If you could read and comprehend to even a basic level you would realise I posted the tale of the tape so :
    MARCIANO's STATISTICS COULD BE SEEN
Tyson's stats are irrelevant to this discussion .
If I had a tale of the tape comparing Johnson to Marciano, I would have posted it you RET*RD!
    WHAT A MORON YOU ARE
Why don't you kill yourself and do the world a favour?

What exactly do you mean by T REX ?

The length of them? because if it's the circumference I had bigger biceps when I left college than Marciano had when he won the title, bigger chest too, and I'm not a big man.

Oh, I read it...and it has about as much relevance as a post comparing Marciano to Frazier, Lewis, or Ali.

If you're looking for someone with similar dimensions to Johnson, try Walcott. Similar height and reach to Johnson; approximately the same weight as Johnson was when he won the title. I wouldn't say Marciano was dramatically undersized against Jersey Joe....:think

The relevance is that a poster namely YOU said there was not much difference in size between Marciano and Johnson, when actually Johnson is significantly all round the bigger man.

Why would I be looking for someone of similar dimensions to Johnson? The only point in question is the size disparity between Johnson and Marciano, not only their measurements but their weight ,which you deny.
