The EXPERTS of that time, much greater experts than you, felt Johnson was head and shoulders better than Langford, Jeanette or McVey. They also felt from watching him live from ringside that he was not only an ATG fighter but also had the finest defense of any hwt champion. Thats first hand expert opinion from that time. Nothing trumps this first hand expert opinion.

It's a question you have declined to answer.

ps How much stamina would Marciano display at 37 in tropical Havana fighting for 80 minutes? How about going 10 rds at the age of 52, is that evidence of stamina??:think

This is a surpassingly ignorant post.
The choreographed Computer fight between Ali and Marciano was shot in 1 minute segments and sometimes 30 second ones. plus it was not a real fight! ,
And you call me stupid! How obtuse are you?:patsch

Johnson's best weight according to himself was the 208lbs he weighed for Jeffries.
Marciano's was 185/188lbs, so at least 20lbs disparity.
What importance if any, you give the extra weight is up to you. Short swarmers did not do well against Johnson.

    Richdanahuff,

You're talking to a poster ( mcvey ) who can be militant on this topic who won't answer questions, and will use double standards, flawed logic.

Free advice. You might want to save yourself some time.

Everyone knows Marciano pace in 15 rounds was legendary. To suggest he could not go 25 rounds is silly.

Despite what Johnson said (I have ample examples of fighters making wild comments on their fitness) what proof do we have of Johnson's fitness in 1910 other than he beat old, innactive ex-champ who looked horrible in sparring and possibly prepared only for a fixed fight?

I would contend he was better proven at the 190 mark or thereabouts.

I also tend to think that there was a lot more science in Marciano's swarming than what we have seen or heard about among Johnson's contemporaries.

No you missed my point entirely, I am making a rebuttal to those saying Rocky's stamina is going to be a big factor here.To do that I am pointing out that 37 years old Johnson showed exceptional stamina in several fights being in front after 20rds against giant Willard in conditions that Willard described as "hot as hell"amply demonstrate that stamina. Johnson went 20rds or more 13 TIMES. How many of them have you seen to form your opinion of the pace they were fought at? I'll answer for you NONE!
Winning a 15 rounder at the age of 48!
    Marciano never went beyond 15!
What distance would Johnson need exactly ?
He was an excellent in-fighter, and who is winning a long range fight?
Louis was a shadow of the fighter he had been.
If you really think Johnson could not have finished the Jeffries fight earlier then I've wasted to posts on you.

But you keep up with the insults ,its easier than making an objective ****ysis isn't it?

Joe Jeannette took up boxing late in Nov 1904.

He was 0-3, 1 KO loss when he first meet Jack Johnson

By Nov 1906, they drew in a 10 round match. Johnson had 20 pounds on Jeannette. Jeannette had but two years experience as a pro. And they drew! In another fight, Jeannette won via DQ when Johnson belted him low.

What pro is in their prime back then in just two years? Answer, NONE!!!

Four other fighters besides Johnson had already beaten Jeannette besides Johnson in the two-year span.

The win means very little as Joe would get much better.

After this fight in Nov 1906, Jack Johnson never dared to fight Jeannette again!

But to your point, what rankings had Jeanette in 1904-1906 highly ranked?

You didn't get around to answering my earlier question ,want to do so now?

"Do you think Langford looks crude?
If the answer is no,imo you have to ask yourself , how come he only beat McVey 6 times out of 13 lost 2 and was held to a draw 5 times? "

When people use an! mark it's to show a forceful way of speaking or a strong feeling. Are you saying he could not?

To clarify, don't you think he would have no problem going 25 rounds?
