Also Moore was a lightheavyweight. I highly doubt that he hit harder than a big, strong full-fledged heavyweigth like Johnson.:good
At his best, Johnson weighed 205 lbs. Moore as a HW weighed at his best 190 lbs, so it´s 15 lbs, but I rounded up to 20 lbs, but I know, math is not your favourite thing...
Good point. For some reason unknown to me, a lot of people here keep coming up with "he'll keep him on the end of his jab" "he'll jab him all night long". Why??? There isn't a single filmed fight in which Johnson does this. He throws a punch, comes in a clinch, does some work there, go back outside and repeat it all over again. Jack Johnson did not keep people on the end of his jab, in fact, he didn't jab much at all. In his day, there was still the transition from bareknuckled boxing to gloved boxing. Combinations, jabs, etc were not that often used yet; wrestling and pushing was still a big part of boxing. The left hook had only been invented for a few years !
Thats why I didnt include Jeffries,Walcott and Charles ,Moore too all put up great performances against Rocky ,but given their ages do you beleive they were in there primes? If Charles a former Light Heavy ,a bit past his best at 33 ,could take Rocky the distance why couldnt an in prime Johnson ,a natural Heavyweight?
Come on, Charles, Walcott and Moore were all great fighters at the TIME they face the Rock. One cant say the same about Moran or Jim Johnson who gave Johnson hell.
Charles in his prime (48-52 IMO) and Charles in the Marciano- fights isn´t really a big difference. Johnson wasn´t as smart as Charles, ihe would always clinch that much like he ususally did, than I see Marciano KOing him, that´s my opinion...
Johnson was way out of shape for both fights .Walcott,Charles and Moore were undeniably great fighters, whats open to argument is whether they were in their primes, given their ages.
