keene simmons's so so record often gets dismissed but when you watch him he was a rough handfull. he gets beat here but you can see he was a strong game brawler beter than his record would imply. its realy a testament to the strong level of fighters of his day. Well you haven't seen Marciano going 20rds with" relentless punching pressure" in fact you have only seen him go 15rds,in a fight that he said was his hardest ,against a man I would class as inferior in just about every department to Johnson. It's very possible that over the longer distance Rocky would fight at a slower pace. Johnson was never mastered inside ,and to state categorically that Rocky could acheive it ,is rather sweeping, imo.
johnson was never mastered inside with a promoter or a cowboy law man as the referee. there is no way on earth johnson would be able to cluch the biceps in the way he did with bigger gloves or tangle and wrestle for as long as the cowboys let him. with a real ref breaking them up jack would be forced to catching rock on the way in. he would be forced to exchange blows. johnson would be forced to lead. jack johnson would be uncomfortable with the pace.
Johnson fought with the best referees of the day controlling the action, including. Jack Welch Billy Roche Tommy Keenan He never fought with Wyatt Earp as a referee if that is who you are referring to. I think you need to do some research The poster who originally made this thread ,made no mention of the amount of rounds,or size of gloves. Marciano fought at a steady pace he was neither fast nor furious,in his attack .
Another continued fairy tale by Mendoza no doubt. I don't remember this at all... and yes I read the book. I do think he was cut, but nothing threatening a stoppage.
He looks ******ed. Does all the hard part but getting inside and then throws some of the slowest, most unenthusiastic punches I've ever seen. Does he know how to punch? His defense or ability to not get hit seems not too shabby.
when i mentioned lawmen I was refering to the sheriff who called off the jim flyn fight actualy. there may have been an official reff but what use was he? why? I know how johnson fought and I know how marciano fought and have seen and read all the same stuff you have been exposed to. quite. It works both ways then. under johnsons rules it would be an awful fight where johnson has a "chance". under rockys rules johnson has less to no chance.
it is what it is. simmons no world beater for sure. I just thought he looked a tough handfull. its easy to poke fun at the loser but the guy looked game and strong in the way holyfields first opponent was. I think he was called byrams?
I actually think they both have a chance in each others rule sets.I never meant to imply anything else, I fancy Johnson to win ,but have no problem with anyone picking Rocky. I see what you mean about the" Lawmen". I thought you might be confusing one of Johnson's fights with one of Fitz's . I retract my remark about you needing more research. Though I think you over- emphasise Johnson's penchant for holding Did you think Johnson took liberties in that fight? How about Billy Goat Flynn, leaping up trying to butt him? Jack knew he was in no danger ,he had knocked Flynn senseless before.
Everett Skehan states in his book, on Marciano ,that Rocky was in real danger of being stopped by the cut , so I think there is some substance to this.
Since Rocky never had a fighter stopped on cuts during his career, one cannot hold that against him in fantasy matchups.
