    Liston!
Johnson is great but he fought less competition!Liston is strong as Jeffries(prime) and had that jab!Johnson is master of boxing but he is not very quick nover and left himself wide open!Liston reach advantage is notable! But Johnson is tough and he would not be intimidated like other fighters!I am taking Liston by UD or late stoppage in a great brawl!

    Interesting match
I think that if johnson is allowed to fight with the "dirty" clinches like back in his day then Liston could get frustrated and if the fight is pacted to a long distance like 20 rounds and jack survives early then Liston could be in serious problems

Prime Johnson toys with Liston and stops him late or wins a decision.

Are you being serious? Johnson never proved how good he was as champion. Instead he showed how vulnerable he was draws and victories. He was floored and hurt by Ketchel in his own admission, and out boxed by O'Brien jab according to some primary sources.

Johnson's clinching game went out the window vs bigger opponents in their prime, and Liston's jab, size reach and power, not to mention better skills would signal ending for Johnson. Liston didn't tire, he had 15+ round stamina. Furthermore I don't think Johnson had enough power to hurt or deter Liston. The best Johnson could do is look like Eddie Machen did vs Lison, though I think Machen was more durable than Johnson was.

    Sto with this bull****.

It didn't against Moran and although we don't have footage of pre-title Johnson fights, he fought plenty of big guys then.

    You surely do ;)

Show me one thing on film, that indicates where Johnson could handle Liston I'll be waiting. Until then, you're the one giving BS.

Moran, a big guy? What was he 203 pounds vs. Johnson? Didn't we go over that fight? Johnson doesn't maul him and lands something like 5 punches a round. Sure, that would work vs. Sonny Liston. You not trying to compare Moran to Liston, are you?

Moran would not last four rounds with Sonny Liston.

I've asked Johnson fans who his best wins were. They say Tommy Burns, all 5'7 1/2" 168 pounds of him. His second best win is maybe Martin, a fighter with string bean like build who had a glass jaw and body.

I'd like to see that reply myself. Johnson was in his prime in 1909. He was also active in this year and fresh off his won over Tommy Burns,

    In this year, he was:

1 ) Outboxed by Jack O'Brien according to some primary sources. O'brien was neat his end, and about 160 pounds.

2 ) Floored and by his own admission hurt by Ketchel. Kethcel was short and looks be to under 160 pounds on the film.

What the heck. How could two smaller guys show up the heavyweight champion of the world in his prime like this?

3 ) Gives a guy like Ross, a 12-9 fighter a title shot ( For shame ). Ross had 1 win 5 losses and a draw in his past seven fights. Johnson wins on points easily, but was hurt by the only sold punch Ross lands. " In the fourth round, Ross landed his only telling blow of the fight, a vicious right hand that shook Johnson "

Okay, that's three suspect events in his prime. Now for the capper, Johnson fought a 4 round exhibition match with Gunboat Smith. Smith was as novice. What happened? Smith floored Johnson to the point where his manager halts the action.

Such a man would have no chance agains Liston.

In a modern context suppose Canelo draws with Tyson Fury, Golovkin floors Tyson Fury and hurt him, Fury get stung by 12-9 fighter in a title match he has no businesses giving, and then gets clocked in a 4 round exhibition match by a 1 year pro. What would they say about Fury? He'd be run out of heavyweight boxing! Yet this happened to Johnson and all you hear is excuses and how great he was.

Johnson was very limited. Basically just a strong guy who would lock people in clinches and wear them down then sprinkle in uppercuts and the like. Regularly fought undersized opposition who couldn't deal with that style. Didn't really have the skillset to hang with a modern fighter like Liston. Getting past that long, stiff jab takes a bit of craft I don't think he had.

If you actually used any real arguments, we could talk about it. So far you hasn't so there is no point going further with you.
So 203 lbs is not a big guy? Liston was 10 lbs heavier in his prime, that's not huge difference.
We had debate about this fight before. I used available footage to show you that Johnson beat Moran easily and convincingly, it's you who run away from evidences.
I don't compare Moran to Liston, Sonny was far better fighter. It's also possible that Moran would not last more than four rounds (it's possible that he would, he was decent fighter) but that wouldn't make Liston better than Johnson. Foreman would beat a lot of Ali opponents far quicker, it doesn't matter as long as you dominate in fight.
