Johnson if it's a decision and nobody if it's an NC - but if it's an NC, expect Johnson to "lose" according to at least some of the newspapermen in attendance.
Over that distance Meehan has a chance.Johnson would have to be much more proactive than he usually was.
An old O'Brien did well against Johnson over 6 rounds so it is possible that Jack doesn't get on track in time. Also, Willie was a specialist over the 4 round distance. He knew all the tricks and could expend a lot of effort to be elusive given the time limit.
Depends on the way Johnson plays it, if he goes in to the fight with sole focus on winning then he would beat Meehan, if he were to go into the bout with intent to taunt the crowd, 'play' with Meehan and try to humiliate him, then Johnson would find 6 rounds had been and gone, then Willie wins and Johnson gets a L on his record.
Jack Johnson would stand right in front of his opponent with his hands down, his foot inside his opponent's, clinch, throw a punch, clinch, throw a punch, clinch. He would occasionally throw two punches, where he would then wig out, shoot his hands randomly all over the place after the second cross he threw his entire body into took him in, and clinch yet again. If he didn't throw his full body in, he would just wig out and randomly shove his arms everywhere randomly. (Any decent modern boxer would be trying to shoot over his arms while he's doing this) Finally, he got old and someone managed to figure out that you should throw more than one punch at a time to disturb rhythm and KOd him cold. Willard KOd him with a truly beautiful 1-2. I get that he's an important figure in the sport for a myriad of reasons, and was a very good athlete with a charismatic, rebellious personality in a time where those tended to be punished for people of his race. But his boxing is bizarre and outdated, not to mention boring. This content is protected *Edit: Whoops, I thought it said "Willis Meehan". My bad.
I would expect Johnson to take the bout with the idea of having fun, showing off for the crowd and flashing his golden smile throughout. But Meehan would probably turn out to be more formidable than most expected. He gives Johnson a good battle. Jack does enough to win, but it goes the limit.
Lol! I realize you meant the Dempsey rival, but my mind went right to Kali Meehan's son, who has had like ten fights. I was thinking "isn't that a bit early?" Anyway, I think Meehan just kind of uniquely had something on Dempspey in the same way Norton did against Ali. Johnson would have won handily.
Willie Meehan the Australian? Brother of Kali? I knew him personally and he's hard pressed getting through a gym workout. Johnson whenever he wants to finish it.
