    And shitty fat guys!

Seriously, who was the best real sized heavy he beat? Jeffries was a slob by the time he fought Johnson. McVea was decent for the times. Sandy Ferguson was all right.

    Best in what way?

Best head to head or best in terms of the importance of the win?

Lets look at it another way.

How many heavyweight champions before the 70s had as many key fights agaist opponents over 200lbs?

I withdraw the remark about Mendacity's stand in ,because he considers Johnson to have been a coward, and has stated so several times, including on the Jeffries thread, active at the moment. Johnson was a late developer imo, in is ability and physically. His prime ? Thats up to individuals to determine depending on their knowledge ,objectivity ,etc. This is 1908 Johnson weighs 192lbs here ,16lbs less than he will scale when he humiliates Jeffries 2 years later.

Another thread made with the single purpose to hate on a fighter. Pathetic.

    McVey,at 207lbs was 17lbs heavier than 190lbs Johnson.

The average weight of Johnson's title challengers is 202lbs.
The height of Johnson's challengers was
    6'6".25
    6' 1.5"
    6'3"
    5'10"
    6'2"
    5' 9"
    6'1"
    5'9"
    5' 10.5"
The average weight of Rocky Marciano's challengers was 192lbs

The average weight of Ezzard Charles's challengers was 190lbs

The average weight of Jim Jeffries challengers was 184.5lbs .

The average weight of Jack Dempsey's challengers was 188.9lbs

Johnson, at a 202lbs average, appears to compare favourably to those examples.:think

I think I would put Johnson's losing performance against Willard up there.Thirty seven years old ,out of shape , dissipated, fighting a giant for 26rds, in front after 20rds, tropical heat, yes I definitely would.

Johnson fought Young Peter Jackson who ran away for the duration of the fight. Johnson halted the action and apologised to the audience for not giving them better entertainment.
Johnson won what points there were, flooring Jackson twice but, could not catch him with a finisher .
Jackson stopped Sam Langford in 5 rds in his next fight

Peter Jackson did not fight Johnson. He did however fight Jeffries, but that's another story.

Johnson visited Jackson's grave when he was in Australia.

errr... I work 60 hours a week. Don't always have time to bask in the intellectual breezes that blow through these parts.

Holmes 5 best wins? Hell, he had some really good one.

    Kenny Norton
    Tim Witherspoon
    Carl The Truth Williams
    Ray Mercer
    Earnie Shavers or Gerry Cooney

Don't give a lot of credence to Ali. Berbick was another good pelt. Leroy Jones was touted.
