Good one. Larry's jab, reach, and lateral movement gives him an edge. It would be hard for Jack to catch him.

However, Jack was a master of defense and would capitalize on Larry's mistakes when close enough, such as dropping his left after jabbing. Could go either way, but depends on when (or if) Jack could get close enough to parry, feint, or trick Larry into an exchange.

Both dude's "Johnson & Holmes" pair up well. Both also were great technical fighters, too.

In my opinion, I say Holmes edges Johnson over 15 see-saw rds based on his ever pumping and accurate jab. Johnson was a master of defense and countering, but Johnson never fought a man as big, fast, skilled and as offensive as Larry Holmes was... Meanwhile, Holmes has seen dude's in the range of Jack Johnson who were schooled more so in the modern era of boxing...

This would feature the two best right uppercuts in the division, very tough fight to call I give Jack a smidgeon of an advantage, but its even money imo.

Two of the best heavyweight technicians ever. I give Homes the edge, owing to his superior speed. Very close though.

larry wins this one larry has a much faster jab and this would allow larry to pace the fight his way larry would keep jack at bay with his long accurate jab for most of the fight on route to a 15 round ud:yep:think

  6. I pick jonhson by sd, even holmes did admit that jonhson would be the atg who would give him more problems.
Jonhson had more stamina, better defence, faster legs in the attack, and i would give the edge in hands speed too, but it is close. And jack would handle holmes pretty well in the clinch because he was stronger.

I know that quote and Holmes was kidding when he said that. This one, I can't pick a winner. Something tells me Holmes size and scoring advantages give him the edge. Johnson's bread and butter was hitting in the clinches which is a no-no today. Back then you could do more wrestling. How would he adapt just too tough to say.

Holmes has just enough to edge Jack, his jab being the difference.

Charley Rose ,who saw both Johnson and Ali said," Jack would have caught Ali's jabs like Willie May's catches a baseball."
As an Englishman ,I am unfamiliar with Mays ,or Baseball for that matter, but could Jack do the same to Holmes's jab?
Very tough job, Larry had one of the best, and it set up his right cross nicely.

Absolute blowout with an utterly confused, bloody and beaten Johnson being stoppeed in the 8th. You don't race horse and buggies against testarossa's.

Holmes easily. His 7 inch reach advantage allied to one of the greatest jabs in history put him in a sweet place.

Sure, just Like Johnson caught the knockdown blow from Ketchel, even though the film shows his glove near his waist.

No one caught Holmes' jab. The only thing Johnson did better was upper cut, though Holmes had a pretty good uppercut himself. Larry would have field day on Johnson and take him out.
