Just an interesting little statement made by Kelly Pavlik's trainer, Jack Loew. In an article written by TSS's own Ron Borges, Joew - after having watched some tapes of Gary Lockett - thinks that he's far better than Duddy... What do you think? Do you agree with Loew that fighting Gary Lockett is a bigger risk than fighting the much more popular and media supported John Duddy? Also, do you think that in the year of the upsets Lockett has a chance to pull off an upset, or it's gonna a be a short night and long way back to Wales?
I've watched some film of Gary Lockett and I believe he's a better fighter than John Duddy. More power, better defense, better technical skill, and better timing. He'd beat Duddy if they fought. This is a bigger risk fight for Pavlik, even if the media doesn't take kindly to it. Still, Pavlik should stop him in about 5 or 6.
Who cares if he's better or not.... Back in the days, the best fighters had to fight the next best fighters available and there was only one belt to win ! If you don't fight and can't consistently beat the best, you're out of the picture that's it !! Ray Robinson showed the way :good
Lockett was very highly touted by Sky sports and they showed many of his fights up until he lost to someone he was expected to walk through which set him back, he hits very hard but isnt a huge MW...Pavik's style isn't hard to fathom out though and if he has an off night theres a chance something odd could happen but lets face it, yes he's better than Duddy but he should still lose
He's good no doubt. I perhaps better than Duddy, but I think Duddy has been CRUCIFIED for one off night, and I think some of the criticism has been harsh. Yes, he went life and death with a journeyman, but you can chalk it up to an off night. Look at the plus': wins against Lenord Pierre, Howard Eastman, Bonsante, and Campas. We also know Duddy has an abundance of heart, and he has thus far always found a way to win no matter how limited he may be. Duddy isn't that great, but he consistently wins, and he stays busy at least.
I would agree that Lockett is better opponent than Duddy plus he is a mandatory for one of Pavs belts.
lockett is not better than duddy,he may have better fundamentals than duddy but is most certainly not the better fighter. since resume is the all important factor on this site it is clear that duddy is much superior,he has fought a much higher level oppostion that lockett and furthermore has never been defeated even when his backs against the wall.the only reason that he is a better opponent than duddy is becaus it allows pavlik to earn about $2m for 12 minutes of fighting.
For ****s sake is anyone on this forum any good any more???,going by the posts recently id say no,everyones either a bum, over rated or a no body, even the men who are the title holders(Wlad, hatton etc) are seen as weak and cowards,i do wonder if some people posting here have ever competed at a decent level of sport,it sure as **** aint easy as some seem to ****ing think.(i played a decent level of rugby, and threw the hammer at B international level so know just how hard it can be) **** dont mean to be knocking, but its kind of becoming a regular thing now,i put a lot of it down to jealousy and being armchair fans, something we all do,but i really try and be fair to all boxers, even to get in the ring is great, how many of us would have the balls to do that?,damn come on guys give these men some ****ing credit.
i get you mate, but realise that when a fighter with the credentials of lockett is getting a title shot against the 'man' at middleweight it shows something sick about the sport.
Leow is Pavlik's trainer. Building up your fighter's opponent is just smart business. Far more people will pay close attention if there is a possibility of an upset. One of Leow's first reactions was to say Lockett reminds him of Zertuche, and we all know what happened to poor Hose' :hi:
