Yes, thank you. I didn't want to guess, but they looked to be maybe hispanic? Thanks for the info my man, and hope to get to meet you in Y-Town on the 21st. :good
They are hispanic. There are five bros., total. Popo is the best candidate for a title in the future.
Not sure what we'll call it, but it looks like March 7, at the Wedge, at 3pm. We decided on an afternoon show. We have contacts in Pittsburgh, so we are trying to setup an Oh vs Pa show.
I was bored last night so I watched Pavlik/Taylor 1 without skipping the 'fluff'. Looks like Taylor's trainer was like this too. I really came to like Taylor after the second fight and now I see Nelson's influence. You are probably right though. A whole little subculture that goes pretty much unnoticed by most though. Makes you wonder how many of the folks buying the expensive ring side seats have ever considered supporting the fight game 'from the ground up'. :think
Amature boxing was big around here when I was a kid. The town where I live had a population of only 6, 500 at that time, and yet, we had a very active club. We also had a TV show out of Portland every Saturday. There was a kid who appeared on that show numerous times. For awhile I was his main sparring partner. At first he would simply outbox me. Somewhere along the way I stopped being afraid to get hit, and got to where I would just walk him into a corner and beat his ass. The coach picked other sparring partners for him, and I went motorcyle racing. Boxing was never more than a part time gig for me anyway.
Seems like there would be an opportunity to play the Pittsburg/Cleveland rivalry given the location of Youngstown. I'd think a lot of amatures would love the chance to show what they have in front of Lowe and possibly Kelly? I would think that would be especially true for guys with pro ambitions. Try and get Youngstown established as 'central ground' while the lime light shines.
I know when I was at that tournament in KC I tried to warm up a bit harder because I was right next to Jack Lowe. Especially when I thought he might be watching (I'm a tall, lanky white guy myself).
