"On Oct. 8, Salinas, a junior at East High, won three amateur fights to capture the 2011 National Police Athletic League boxing tournament in Toledo, becoming the first Youngstown boxer since Kelly Pavlik to win that title. (Lightweight Dannie Williams, who trains at the Southside Boxing Club, won the PAL tournament twice.)The PAL tournament and the National Junior Olympics (which was held earlier this year) are the two top national tournaments. This monthÂ’s title makes Salinas the top-ranked fighter in the 15-16 age division in the United States."

Must be the water around here cuz everyone KNOWS Jack Lowe ain't a top trainer. Come one idiots, crawl out of the woodwork and show yourselves.

Is that Kelly's gym in Youngstown? I recall seeing an HBO story on Pavlik where some kids in that gym were shown. They all appeared to be Latino/hispanic or whatever the PC term this day.

Even the gyms in the North are now full of Hispanics. This appears to be the future of our countries boxing talent pool.

Not trying to troll or **** anyone off, just making an observation about our sport's immediate domestic future.

Yeah, that is where Kelly trains. I saw this kid fight a few years back. There was an empty chair ring side. When the fighters made their way to the ring, Kelly made his way to that seat. He was really into this kid during the fight. I remember seeing Kelly giving him hand signals during a break in the action. This 'Poppo' kid has been on peoples radar for a while now. For the record my son thinks it was 'double jab'/right cross. Hey, it worked. :D

Kelly really seems to take an interest in all the kids in that gym.

Just out of interest, how often do you hear of Pavlik? If he did go out drinking, for example, would you know about it? I'm not being a dick or anything, I'm just wondering whether you know he's sober or not.

I hope he is. I'd love to see him make a genuine comeback.

Well, I've seen the interest in one first hand. I'm not sure about the rest. I'm sure now that he is a father he sees his role a little differently.
