Jack McAuliffe Appreciation - Undefeated world champion

Jack McAuliffe is one of the underated champions history. Here is a few articles regarding his career, which might help some appreciate him a little better.

And the second of the series, which although it points out how easy he was given the title, he sure seems to have earned it in his first title defence. In fact that cold conditions certainly make a stark contrast to some of the famous excuses we have heard in relation to the heat (such as Sugar Ray's collapse).

These articles are not easy to find. Here is the fourth article, which deals with McAuliffe-Carney I. Intersting that McAuliffe was looking for the DQ in this fight, and it sounds as if Carney me have had the best of the going, even though it was officially called a draw.

Chapter 5 tells of McAuliffe throwing in the towell for Jack Dempsey. The part about coming in with a knife to threaten Bob Fitzsimmons prior to the stoppage, sounds absolutely crazy.

Here is Chapter 3 of the series. The image (from these writings at least) really do seem to paint McAuliffe as far tougher than i thought. He doesnt really seem to be as skilfull and devastating offensively as you would expect someone who was as dominant as he was for so long, but definitely his heart and character cannot be questioned. In fact, it seems a little sad that he doesnt seem to have trained and looked after himself as well as he could have.
