I've read some accounts that describe him as American champion only, though most seem to indicate he was the world champ. It also seems that he went unbeaten? Any other observations? And does anyone agree that he looks like a young Brian Clough?
I think he is considered the first lighweight champion of the Queensbury era. In his era they had "no decision" matches. I recall reading that he took a beating in one of his last fights, which was not officially called a loss.
