- retired after losing to Joe Baksi in a "pier six brawl" which was his first loss, Baksi went on to lose to Joe Louis

- He got in a fist fight with Burt Lancaster on a move set

- Was a polyglot that spoke Ukrainian, Russian, Italian, Spanish, French and English

- Palance's big break in acting came when he was an understudy to Marlon Brando when he was doing the theater play a street car named desire. They were training in the theater basement where they put up a heavy bag for the two of them to train. Brando was holding the bag and Palance missed a punch and accidently broke Brando's jaw. He got to play the lead role because of that and got great reviews.
