Very interesting. Glad the Gob is getting an in depth look at his career. Could have some great information on his bouts.

Yeah, I think Sharkey's perhaps the most interesting of the short-term heavyweight champions.

Not least because of the cast of fighters he fought.

That's the same guy that wrote the Walcott book right? Anyone read that one?

Didn't he say that he thought Dempsey hit harder than Louis? Do you reckon he said that just because he did better against him?

He should be the one to know.

He was hit terribly low by both, although the most crippling punch looks to be delivered by Louis in plain sight of referee Arthur Donovan.
(But on the other hand Donovan earned a lot of money being Joe´s house referee for many years after.)

Look forward to reading the book.

That's why Louis had Donovan referee all those hard re-matches with:
    Conn
    Walcott
    Baer
    Godoy
    Pastor
Without old Arthur, he would never have kept his title.

No disrespect meant but I hope it is more in depth than the Walcott book which was a expensive 101 level boxing book .. it was like a Jr. High School level bio ..I hope the guy does some serious Sharkey research and gets into the real story in the guy .. I bought the Walcott book and felt it was shallow .. then again we've been pretty spoiled 9n the past few years w Adam, Clay and Steve's work ..

I think that Sharkey's life outside the ring might be interesting subject matter.

I would really like to read an in-depth book detailing Sharkey and his times .. the man fought Godfrey, Wills, Dempsey, Schmeling and Louis .. he crossed over eras from the Roaring 20's to the Depresson 30's .. he had the two polar opposite Carnera bouts .. the question is what type of book is produced .. let's see ..

Donovan was in cahoots with Louis' management. I find his score cards in some of Louis distance fights to be way off. For example he only gave one round to Tommy Farr.

As for Louis' low blows, he really nailed Schmeling with a mean one just before getting knocked out. It’s on film to see and on par with the Sharkey low blow that Schmeling was hit with

Jack Sharkey was in interesting guy who lived a long time. This book could be a good one on a territory seldom covered.

Educational replay. Arthur Donovan was banned form the Louis vs Walcott fights. Walcott's team refused. FACT.

Had Donovan scored it for Godoy in the 1st fight, Louis loses his title.

The Sharkey book might shed some new light on Donovan's handling of the foul on Sharkey.
