    To see Sharkey combination punch a rubbery Dempsey across the ring in that first round is really something. Quite mod. looking technique actually.

    IMO, Dempsey did deliberately low blow a Sharkey who was looking the goods to go on and win up until that point.

    I wish Tunney had fought him. On film. Then we would know more about both men.

    Agreed.

    Without Sharkey’s erraticism, which is how we should take him (at “best” in fantasy match ups) a match vs Tunney would’ve been very interesting.

    I've said here often that at his peak level on a given night, and if he wasn't in one of his manic phases or the moon was right or whatever the problem was that caused his career to be so inconsistent that he often wasn't at his peak level on a given night, Jack Sharkey would not be an easy assignment for any heavyweight who's ever stepped in the ring. Notice I didn't say he'd win or even be competitive. I said he wouldn't be an easy assignment.
