Both at their best would be a great great fight. I take Baer by knockout. Sharkey would outbox him but was not slick enough to avoid getting cought a few times. Baer would catch him clean and hard enough to hurt him seriously and than put him down for good. Baer TKO9 Sharkey in a great fight.

On his best night Jack is a match for anyone, on his, Baer can stop anyone that HE CAN HIT. Sharkey on an easy points win.

    Matt,

I dont think I am impressed with sharkey on film as u are. Sharkey kept his hands low, he possessed no head movement, no upperbody movement, his footwork was sloppy, he lacked fluidness, he was featherfisted one armed fighter, his defense was leaky, his body was soft.

Max Baer got through Max Schmelings guard....jack sharkey will be easier to penetrate...carnera knocked jack out with 1 punch, max can do the trick. sharkey was an offensive aggresive boxer with little power, but if he gets aggresive vs baer, baer is going to tear him apart.

I agree. Baer would win in a scenario somewhat like the Dempsey-Sharkey bout, where he would outslick, outbox and even outfight Baer for a while, but being less disciplined than a Loughran or a Tunney, would lapse and get tagged by a Baer right hand bomb late in the fight, and it would be all OVAH!!

Ye are so over-rating Baer-do you think Braddock was a better boxer than Sharkey? (Watch both of "em versus Loughran) Losses to Risko, Schaaf, Loughran, Uzcuden, that great marque win versus Schmeling excepted, and after Braddock why 20 or more bums before Farr, Nova etc.Sharkey was a far better boxer than these guys as seen by his Schmeling, Dempsey, Carnera 1, Loughran and Stribling fights.

Braddock had a lot more heart and most probably a better chin. I don't think Sharkey could ship the right hands Braddock did.

Sharkey on his best night takes control, but Baer's right hand does accumulative damage and carries him through as he stops him late on.

Sharkey on a bad night gets knocked out early.

Sharkey wouldn't be able to take Max'x rights for sure but he would't have to.Watch the Schmeling 1 and Dempsey fights. Sharkey was good.

I will start by saying that this would be a match up between the two biggest underachievers in the history of the heavyweight division.

If one turns up on form and the other dosnt that will be the deciding factor.

Sharkey on form was one of the most complete heavyweights of all time. In order to beat him Baer would have to be on the form he wasw on for the Schmeling fight and ship a lot of punishment for the win.

I think a focused Baer is a slightly more elusive creature than a focused Sharkey.

Baer wins.. Sharkey was good for a guy who didn't like boxing, but losing to Dempsey in '27 because he was whining to the referee and getting stopped in his rematch with Primo Carnera kinda' tells the story of Jack Sharkey.... Now, Max Baer like to screw around also, but, when focused he was brutally wicked in the ring... In a battle of wills, Max Baer wins....:rofl

Max Baer was the George Foreman of the 1930's....... Baer, like Foreman, really could NOT box for ****.. BUT! They had size along with great strength and power.... Baer and Foreman threw everything wide and telegraphed...:bbb
