So you bet on Shavers winning by illegal punch?

I bet on Shavers overwhelming him, out-athleting him. Sorry, I am not impressed by Sharkey or his era. I bet with my brains not my heart. I am not persuaded by the rosy-hued glow of nostalgia. Guys like Johnny Risko and Stribling just don't move the dial. Hell, I don't think Schmeling makes much of a dent if he were in Shavers' era.

    KO within 6.

Shavers is not a better athlete than Sharkey though, what are you watching?

Feel free to see it as you wish to see it.

    Shavers is immensely more explosive.

Shavers certainly had more power, but he was also much slower, had far worse reflex and coordination. Sharkey had unreal head movement for someone over 190 lbs.

You say that I'm biased because of nostalgia, don't you think that you are also a bit biased? You always keep saying that HWs from 1960s on are much better athletes, but what are the evidences of this? As I said, Shavers was very powerful but he wasn't exceptional athlete - he wasn't big, he wasn't fast or quick and his boxing abilites are not even close to Sharkey's.

It's funny that everyone who watches 1930s fighters and comes up impressive is called a biased nostalgic fool, but maybe there is a bias on both sides?

    Leon Spinks
    Michael Spinks
    Buster Douglas
    Michael Moorer
    Old Foreman
    Shannon Briggs
    Hasim Rahman

    I didn't think it'd be so easy.

Even in his prime Foreman struggled with fancy boxers. Old Foreman was way too slow to beat Sharkey.
Maybe he would beat him, but definitely not "play". Besides, Sharkey's much better fighter than Douglas in terms of resume.
Michael Spinks has no resume at HW.
Because he beat the worst 1990s version of Holyfield? Because outside of that he didn't accomplish much.
Yes and he lost to younger Sharkey, who wasn't at his best even in their first fight. But you are right - Carnera beat Sharkey. It doesn't make him better though, unless you think that Douglas is also better than Tyson.

I'd take Holmes twice over Carnera and Schmeling.

His whole resume is based on Holmes fights and I don't think he won the second one.

Sharkey don't have as good first win, but he has great depth.
