Great footage. Thanks. Sharkey, could be hot and cold but was hot for the main part in this fight - fast, powerful combo to stagger Dempsey in round 1. Very impressive. The footage properly shows off the impressive musculature and conditioning of both men. Sharkey was particularly bulky up top. I can’t see how Dempsey’s blatant low blow could be seen as anything but. Sharkey is not out from the left hook and still grabbing at his crotch - the overriding pain being from the low blow. His knees are drawn up in tell tale tale fashion as he’s dragged back to his corner. Also, if you look closely, Sharkey may well have fallen from the low blow alone - he pulls away and looks to be at the start of a possible descent but Dempsey lands the left hook at the same time.
I totally agree, Dempsey looked like he was 75% of what he was when he won the title. Sharkey was as rough as sandpaper in this fight and if you didn't know how this fight ended you would have thought Sharkey was going to win a UD.
I think you're right, the left hook to Sharkey's head wasn't a devastating shot and he did appear to be in agony from the low blow.
Which one, Middle Leg? Get hit in the nuts like that and a feather could knock you over. In that regard Dempsey’s left was overkill. Sharkey didn’t have much time to fall before the left hook landed anyway and not all fighters fall instantly from a low blow, some don’t actually fall even when in acute pain. If you pause it just before the left hook, Sharkey is already in a very precarious stance after the low blow. You can also see after Dempsey lands the low blow the ref is heading into break them and actually has his hands on Dempsey just before Jack launches the left hook. We also see the slo mo of Dempsey deliberately punching Sharkey after the bell as they head to their corners. Let’s just say, Dempsey wasn’t above a low blow and he landed more than just the final one we saw in the fight.
Wow...great, clear flim. Both guys were ripped at 195 surely with modern "nutrition" they would weigh 220-225 nowadays? Dempsey was ripping lefts and rights to Sharkey's midsection and was really putting a hurt on Sharkey and one definetly strayed low, not TOO low but low nonetheless. Protect yourself at all times. It's not like the ref was pulling them apart; Dempsey threw the left hook in a flash and hit Sharkey flush. Someone mentioned Dempsey punched Sharkey after the bell; well Sharkey slapped Dempsey after the bell earlier on.
