Pretty much and Povetkin didn’t fight like a 220- 225lbs guy from Sharkey’s time like Liston for example at 210lbs seemed like he carried too much weight for his frame… he was lumbering where as Povetkin is a tight and relatively quick fighter for his size.

I don’t think the Schmeling fights are the best example of technical displays by Sharkey, who at his peak is a great infighter and utilized more head movement than any other heavyweight form the period. Honestly that footage might be the clunkiest I’ve seen Jack, maybe you can use the argument that he looked so clunky because Schmeling was his most difficult opponent but he doesn’t really display his usual shiftiness or movement even when Max isn’t really doing anything.

Jack Sharkey vs. Primo Carnera 1 is very interesting for this thread. I do not believe Jack Sharkey AND Primo Carnera, at their best, were as unskilled as many seem to think.
