By far Sharkey's best performance. This Sharkey is a H2H nightmare, probably the best reflexes I've seen on a heavyweight from that era.

Shows how good he was at his peak.

It's crazy how slow Sharkey looks in the 30s compared to this fight, probably the most inconsistent fighter in heavyweight history

Best fighter in the world from the neck down.

It's not hard to see how Carnera beat him really.

He was a much more capable fighter that Carnera at his best, but the form that he showed in that fight, simply wasn't going to cut it against a fighter like Carnera.

Yes, Sharks was the epitome of the extremely hot then extremely cold fighter. This footage is great example of the hot version punctuated by an emphatic KO. Thanks.

I really like his performance in the Dempsey fight also, which was unfortunately marred by the controversial ending.

Also, even though Dempsey wasn’t what he used to be - that fight still gives a strong and positive indication of what Dempsey once was..at his very best.

Sharks was very robustly built - something that Peter Heller noted was still the case, even when he interviewed a much older Jack for his book so many years later.

I read a book about the heavyweight champions; it was written long enough ago that the chapter on Sonny Liston was added on at the end and was only a page and a half.
The chapter on Sharkey was my favorite. It talked about how he had an excellent jab with a lot of shoulder in it. It talked about how he developed a short, potent right hand that traveled less than a foot. It talked about his short, powerful left hook. And it talked about how he was more emotional than a silent movie diva and how that undermined everything else.
Ray Arcel talked about how, on a good night, Sharkey was a beautiful boxer.

Like they used to say, couldn’t hit him with a handful of salt.
