"I watched it and stuff like that but I wasnt really impressed. I could tell Shogun wasnt the same that use to fight in Pride. It seemed like, it looked like Shogun got tired in the first round and Forrest got tired in the second round but he had enough heart to you know, pull it off. It looked like Shogun was a little more tired then Forrest you know what Im saying. He did a good job but you know if Shogun was the same guy that I fought and Forrest beat him then Id be, I wouldve been more impressed." http://mmayou.com/home
Sounds fair. I think it was obvious to all that something was wrong with Mauricio Rua that night (some overconfidence, mixed with a lack of preperation). He was gasping for air by the end of the first round, didn't look sharp at all. Griffin deserves credit considering that, regardless of Rua's preperation, nine out of ten experts were picking "Shogun" to win. It was a huge upest.
I heard that Rua had an injury, and it required surgery. Surgery that was expensive enough that he could not afford it. I heard this injury had an impact on his training, and left him ill prepared. The only reason he went through with the fight was to get enough money to have the surgery. I don't know how true any of that is, it was just something I heard.
This is plain nd simple..Forrest dwarftd him...Forrest is huge..and Shogun is just one of those in betweener like Vera at Heavy and lighthvyweight
Come on now, Forrest IS the biggest LHW I've ever seen. He cuts from 240 which is ridiculous. Judging their fight in Pride, Jackson and Shogun are about the same size so I don't think Shogun is an inbetweener, he cuts from about 220 himself which is about average for LHW's.
I heard about the injury. Never heard about the money issue. I've read it was his ankle which would explain why shogun was going for takedowns.
He doesn't 'cut from 240', its impossible to cut 35lbs without dieing. He may have weighed 240 and been out of shape at some point in the past, but he sure doesnt 'cut' from there. :nono As for 'biggest LT HV's' - I think a young Tito had a lot of mass for a 205lb man and seemed to find his weight and cut perfectly for it years before others did.
'Cutting' is losing water on the day (or the day before) of the weigh in. It is not long term weight loss. Nobody has ever cut 35lbs for a fight.
Possibly, but then he did knock out Overeem in Vegas, and Overeem has looked impressive lately (and took Buentello, a former UFC HW contender, to school in the US). We'll see how he looks in the future but at this point I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that the reason he looked so bad against Forrest is due to poor preperation for the fight (he was in the middle of changing camps, carrying an injury and had just got married, and there was plenty of speculation beforehand that he may be primed for the upset). I do think the majority of top 10 or even top 20 fighters would have beat the Shogun that Forrest fought though.
Wtf are you talking about? It doesn't have to be the same day or day before. Cutting is a general term of fast loss of weight to meet a certain weight restriction. If you're smart about it u start watching your weight week before the competition. You don't always "cut" water. Since when is word "cutting" has restriction of today or day before lol? As for 35lbs, i know someone who cut that much weight within 2 days. Except after weigh in they used an IV to get rehydrated . Cheating the scales man.
Even in Pride Rampage was so much thicker than teh already (some say juiced) version of Shogun. I was actually shocked when I saw the size difference..My first thought was, how the **** is Shogun gonna win this fight? Only if Forrest is a complete stiff which he isnt.
It wasn't just being tired, because Forrest beat him from the first bell to the tap. Shogun kept turtling and rolling into guard, while Forrest kept controlling him and pounding on him.
