Imagine Julian Jackson going up against John Mugabi. Who do you think would win? Would this be a FOTY candidate if it had taken place?

    Jackson blows Mugabi away.

    Just the much better fighter.

Completely & utterly wrong. Jackson wouldn't get out of 1 rd vs Hagler. Pre Hagler Mugabi crushes him like everyone else.

Pre-Hagler Mugabi damn near got stopped early by Hard Rock Green.

Never, ever trust a fighter who's best known for their loss.

Jackson beat by far the better comp, and the styles favor him. Julian had far better technical skills and technique, and would get to the target first. He also had a good 3-4 inches in height over Mugabi. I think he'd destroy Mugabi just like he did In-Chul Baek.

Baek, btw, was better than anybody Mugabi ever beat. Who did Mugabi beat??? Don't talk to me about the ass whuppin he took from Hagler. Who did he BEAT???

    I'll wait...

It's sad when Frank Fletcher is your defining win.

If I'm being totally honest, Mugabi isn't a lock over a Tony Ayala or Matthew Hilton, nevermind a Julian Jackson.

Nice post. Mugabi would have a punchers chance with Jackson far more proven.

Mugabi gets pretty overrated. Jackson definitely takes him out, who exactly did Mugabi beat that’s even close to the level of Jackson? Mugabi was also never hard to hit and was knocked out by every hard puncher he faced. Jackson by early ko.

I was gonna compare Mugabi to Razor Ruddock, being as both were murderous punchers best known for giving all time greats a tough fight in a losing effort (Hagler, and Tyson, respectively), but that comparison would be an insult to Ruddock because Ruddock actually beat some good fighters. Mugabi never did.

Both expert finishers but Jackson had faster hands and was better, Mugabi never stopped anyone as slick as Norris of Graham. Norris`s KO over Mugabi was expertly done I see Jackson stopping him the same way.

It's not inconceivable that Mugabi catches him with something and puts him away, but Jackson was just better and equally important, quicker and snappier with his shots. He gets there first, which in this case means he wins.

I think Mugabi is the better boxer but that Jackson has a big edge in raw power. Mugabi wasn't too hard to hit, and anything JJ can tee off on he can pulverise.
