Until the rules change, this is just another aspect of preparing and gaining an edge in a competitive sport. It's not cheating.

I'm not trying to apologize for Golovkin winning. I understand your point but I look at it this way:

Golovkin obviously was going to abide by the rules. It's his belt and he doesn't want to lose it. While Jacobs probably couldn't care any less. So, in my eyes this is a bit unethical. I think we can all agree Jacobs did not come in at 172 pounds. He was probably around 180, which is legal. If there was no rehydration clause then this wouldn't be an issue. But since he knew Golovkin was gonna be 170 or under, it creates an unfair advantage.

It doesn't matter because he still lost. But this system is stupid. There should be no rehydration clause at all.

May seem underhanded but it was a smart move really

I believe Conte reported he was 176 that morning. He still had all day to rehydrate more.

Also, while I believe calling it cheating is too strong, he could've nixed fighting for the IBF any time before that second weigh in. In that scenario, let him weigh what he wants. Both parties know what they're signing on for.

The problem I have is GGG was constrained by a rule Jacobs had no intention of following because Jacobs waited until it was too late for GGG to have the opportunity to disregard it, too. That's solely where the problem is for me.

Exactly as I see it, however I don't think it affected Golovkin as he was 170 lb in the ring anyway. Jacobs said he was about 175 lb in the ring (probably a few pounds higher).

It doesn't matter coz everyone including myself said he was gunna get banjoed around the ring, GGG fan boys are crying about this because Jacobs didn't get koed like theory all planned.

The only issue is that Golovkin didn't really have the option to do so, because if he came over he would have stripped of the IBF title.

Agreed that the end result wasnt affected, really. Ironically, Jacobs didn't fight the style most conducive to using that weight asvantage.

Jacobs willpower and determination allowed him to survive and rise to the occasion and challenge Triple G like no other. I also predicted Triple G by TKO in 7 rounds. I was proven wrong.

Agree though with some fighters it's starting to feel like the tail is wagging the dog. Too much in other words

I mean, he made the weight limit, I don't really care about the
rehydration. Golovkin came in at 169 so he was a SMW when
he walked in to the ring. Other than Floyd or Pac, I can't think
of any guys that don't walk into the ring in a different
    weight class.

A weight cheat is what Brandon Rios constantly did, ie...
a goofy that doesn't even try to make weight.

His chin and defense is way better than we gave him credit for too. If I was his son I would have been proud of that effort, he really rose to the occasion.

the way i look at it...if you are the "team" of a fighter...you have to mentally prepare for anything is possible....like i see guys saying "i hope chavez comes in at blah blah"...now i dont even know the particulars if there is a rehydration clause or whatever for that fight....but if yer canelo you should be prepared for chavez to come in at his highest possible weight......team ggg should have been prepared for jacobs to say "eff the ibf belt"....so theres no excuse really...im sure golovkins team was mentally prepared for that...no way they shouldnt have been...it would be naive
