I've had a chance to review the fight from last night and this is what I came up with. Jacobs didn't do that bad as everyone thought, calling him a hypejob is kinda going to far. This fight kinda reminded me of donaire vs darchinyan as it was competitive but Pirog was the one with the knockout as I think he is a better boxer, was actually expecting a later KO not as early as the fifth. I scored the rounds as follows: Pirog rounds 1 and 2, Jacobs rounds 3 and 4. I can see how the refs had Jacobs winning round 1 as it was very close but Pirog landed that big punch that sealed the deal for me. If anyone thought Pirog won rounds 3 or 4 they need to have their eyes checked. Anyone it was a great fight can't wait to see more from both fighters Pirog especially, lets not go too crazy saying he can beat pavlik that is just plain nonsense.
i suppose everyone must be undefeated to garner respect... it was already said by many that it was crazy that these two were meeting up this early in thier careers... someone was bound to lose... it's jacobs and pirog...2 cats...one guy gotta lose. not a career ender.... just a halt for jacobs..and back to the drawing board for him... pirog will enjoy this well deserved spotlight..
:-( Both sides are as bad each other. The Brits will label an American prospect a hypejob when he loses, and the Americans will do exactly the same when a Brit fighter loses. And whenever a side is on the end of the jokes and taunting, both say the same thing...."Nothing wrong with tasting a defeat. All fighters go through it and it's learning curve. You're stupid to think otherwise"
Jacobs makes fundamental mistakes that are cringeworthy, however he does not deserve such lynching. I hope he recuperates, he seems like a pretty good kid with a head on them shoulders. A devastating knockout loss is much too much for many, hopefully this is the humbling experience to put him on the right track once and for all.
Cringeworthy??? You know how many other fighters are imperfect? All of them. I see fundamental mistakes in every fight. But, to act like Jacobs performed so poorly or whatever is nonsense. He did some good things in there, just fought stupidly in spots. His defense needs to tighten up, he needs to forget about switching to southpaw, and he needs to stop fighting so cocky.
