Anyone who thinks that was a good performance by GGG needs their heads checked.

He got hit ALOT. And his power wasnt nearly as dominant as it shoulda been vs a welter who had never fought at 160.

I favor GGG over jacobs but watching that woulda given me a boost aswell

That's what's scary. That was a reckless performance by GGG and still resulted in a guy getting his eye socket caved in.

if a 5 year old punched you in the eye you would have a black eye, its no secret GGG has power but Brook handled it VERY WELL and got in ALOT of shots of his own.

i hope he can learn to plug up that leaky defense when it comes to fighting big hitters and smart boxers

I like GGG and I think that he is an excellent fighter with tremendous power. However, he can be hit and on a regular basis. His game is not that he lets people hit him for drama purposes but that he plays it like that. He let Monroe get a couple off but that's after Monroe had got a couple off on his own and GGG realized that he could take the shots. Plus when you looking for and expecting a shot, you can brace for it. In Brook's case, he was totally getting cracked on when he didn't want to and he didn't like it. It was a bitter pill. I never saw where he was trying to take it easy on Brook. He went after Brook from the sound of the bell in round one. Brook not only showed that he can be hit but that the punches bothered him and he can be taken out of his game by them. Brook just didn't know how to turn him and backed straight up to the ropes. That's what cost him. Jacobs is more fluid, faster and hits harder than Brook. If his chin don't fail him this could be a very interesting fight.

His confidence should grow after the brook fight that was the least impressive performance by Triple G since he's become a household name.
He went to brawl and got very sloppy. He can't make that a habit. Jacobs can bang. Looking forward to this fight.

I don't know how it could be any more obvious to you. Golovkin deliberately abandoned his defense and gunned for the KO. Golovkin barely tried to box.

Golovkin said he was going to turn it into a street fight and let Brook hit him. He turned it into a street fight and let Brook hit him lmao. Brook also only won one round. People are silly.

    A couple of points:

    1. GGG beats Jacobs fairly easily in his prime...but he ain't in his prime. He's not a spent bullet but his reflexes looked slow against Brook.

    2. As Freddy Roach said when he Sanchez said "he's just taking punches to make it a fight" when Willie Monroe bounce a bunch of punches off his chin "That's such bull****." Guys who have been fighting 20 years don't take punches on purpose.

    3. Jacobs is GGG's best opponent, Brook was, but Jacobs is not only bigger, but better.

    4. I don't know if Jacobs, as good as he is has the right style for GGG. They built him up as a boxer as he is tall, skinny and black, but he doesn't have good legs. His balance is off, and his hands are quick but his legs aren't. Don't know if it was the cancer, but he was off balance the whole time against Pirog. He's a puncher, nothing more.

    5. Additionally, Danny is quick and probably as powerful as GGG, but he's not accurate, when he hurt Quillan, he hit him on the gloves 20 times before he took him out.

    6. GGG has thrown caution to the wind four times to break his opponent; Ouma, Brook, Stevens and Monroe. It worked all four times as he went all out for a half a round, to get the stoppage. If the guy had made it to the next round I don't know, GGG was breathing pretty hard at the stoppage, can he do it at 33?

All in all, Jacobs is a solid B or B+ fighter, and Glolovkin's best opponent, but he needs a KO early or his legs will give him up, he can't fight going backwards. He's talented but maybe a little taylor-made for GGG.

Early prediction: GGG, TKO-6, but his face gets re-arranged in the first three rounds. FOTY candidate.

The Ouma fight was different. He wasn't as refined of a fighter back then since he hadn't been with Able long enough. He fought all his fights more aggressively in those days. He didn't fight Stevens like he fought Brook either. Stevens just managed to land on him and push him back in that one round. Stevens isn't a bad fighter at all. Also not that it matters but Golovkin bum rushed Monroe worse then he did Brook. Nobody noticed because it was so one sided though. It isn't a case of making an excuse for a lackluster performance. GGG vs Lemieux and GGG vs Wade were both dominate performances but how disciplined GGG fought in both of the fights is night and day. So the argument that he doesn't do it is invalid.

This is a very good breakdown but I disagree that Golovkin has slowed down and looked less sharp recently. He fought differently in the Brook fight than he normally does, but as a whole he looks like the same fighter physically. Even assuming that he has missed a step it will still be too much for Jacobs.

Golovkin DOES take these hits on purpose. When a guy stands in front of you, intentionally doesn't move, lets you hit him and encourages you to do it more without even trying to counter you he is definitely doing that on purpose. It isn't even the first time he's done that. It is stupid, but it is what he does when he doesn't respect your power.

Honestly, I don't think Jacobs is Golovkin's best opponent. Jacobs can't take a punch and isn't very accurate. A win over Quillin is very good, but that fight was very arguably stopped prematurely and is Jacobs only good win. That is a fight that needs a rematch or Jacobs needs to just face some of the other top MWs so we can see where he really is.

Golovkin trains so hard that I don't think conditioning will ever be a problem for him. The man is a freak.
