Caleb Truax at SMW. I'm all for moving up, but moving up and calling out a fighter you already trounced at the weight below just to get another title is less than tantalizing as a career move IMHO. Discuss..........
He is too big for MW anyway. He may have trouble making weight. This is probably better for his health.
I don't think it's really a bad idea. He can say he's a two weight champ and beat up Traux then potentially put him in the mix against a super six winner or runner up. I mean he could put himself on the shelf waiting for Saunders/Canelo/GGG fight which won't happen in 2018. He could face high risk low reward fighters like Deravychenko or fight a guy who's an easier matchup for another title in a new weight class. Saunders is fighting Murray and in september i'd think he'll get the winner of GGG and Canelo for all the belts in a big money fight. What is Jacobs gonna get? The fans may think it's meh and ''doesn't look good'' but what looks good for Jacobs?
Or he can fight another top contender at MW. Jermall Charlo hasn't fought since July. Beating a guy you already beat just so say you're a two division titlist (Never a world champ, only titlist remember), just comes off as cheap. Especially when you are on the schedule these guys are on. At this rate, Jacobs won't have another meaningful fight for who knows how long. He's already had his post-loss tune up. Enough of this easy-peasy stuff.
Nobody knows who Charlo is outside of the hardcores and he has no belt. At SMW you got names like Eubank Jr, Groves, and Smith is well known with the brits. He beats Traux then he'll have those fella's licking their lips to fight him and Eddie will do the deals with Saurland etc. It's a business no one knows who Jermall Charlo is outside of the hardcores. PBC do a poor job of building names. No one knows who Traux is, either. He just holds a belt which could open doors to bigger money fights. And like what has Charlo done at middleweight? Let Charlo put in his work and fight some of the upcoming contenders to earn his place.
Isn't going to happen as DeGale has triggered his rematch clause. But overall it isn't a bad idea to go up in weight. Super middle isn't exactly stacked with talent, if Truax can beat one of the top guys there he could be a genuine threat to all the top guys.
So, from now on, Jacobs is delegated to only title fights, in your opinion? Or can only fight high profile name opponents? Are you a fan of boxing, or Jacob's PR man? If we're being honest, Jacobs has not done much at MW either. His best win is either Sergio Mora or Kid chocolate. charlo's wins over bundrage and trout aren't very far off of those. Actually, while at JrMw, a little better.
He has name value from fighting Golovkin and has signed with probably the best boxing promoter in the world from the uk who has Callum Smith in his matchroom roster. Callum Smith wins the super six then potentially Eddie could match Smith with Jacobs in the US. If say Jacobs gets Traux and DeGale decides to retire or avoid the rematch. Jermall Charlo has done even less than Jacobs and beat a cripple in Heiland. Let Charlo fight a Murata or Lee or even Lemmy. Jacobs got his name out there with a decent performance with Golovkin then being signed to Matchroom USA as one of the faces of Eddie's new venture. Jermall Charlo was a weight bully at junior mid. Let the bully fight a natural middleweight puncher. Throw him in with Deravychenko and see how tough he is.
If Jacobs got any type of "name" from the 3G fight, he's wasted it since. Being in a high profile fight can raise your profile. But one has to take advantage of that exposure, and keep the momentum going. He's seemingly blown it. You can try to think your way through this like some promoter if you want. I'm simply a fan and address the sport as such.
Yeah i get that. I just don't think he gains anything from beating Lemmy, Murata etc for no belt or some silver title. It's a step backwards whereas he could move up to a weight i think he'd be a better natural fit at. I mean it would be great if he fought em' all but the other guys have to work their way up, too. Jacobs was fortunate he got the chances he did being with Al Haymon.
Charlo beat the champion to win the title at light middle and Danny won a vacant paper title against a fighter that was no where near world level
He beat k-9 bundrage for the belt, lol. An awful beltholder. They both had the luxuries of being with Al Haymon. The thing is it's still at junior middleweight. Charlo dwarfed J-Rock Williams and and didn't have it all his own way with the vulnerable but decent fighter in Austin Trout. Charlo is now at middleweight and he has to earn his way. He's not a Canelo Cash Cow who has lots of bargaining chips to play with. You say Jacobs ''name'' has been wasted since but Eddie Hearn signed him and he still gets the benefits of Al as his advisor. I say he's become more well known now. I'm sure Jacobs would've loved to fight Saunders but it was very unlikely to happen due to promotion clashes. You can't discount the boxing politics and blame the boxer for letting the ''momentum'' slide.
But he beat the champion Danny never done that lol am no fan of either but I bet you will see charlo fight a tough fight before danny
