Why not? Pirog/Jacobs will be a more entertaining fight than most of the PPV's we have seen this year,
:deal His varies his offence a lot, "robotic" is definitely not a word to describe him. It seems "robotic" is the default word to describe Eastern European boxers.
It's a bit of a microcosm- 50 years ago a fight like this would've been customary to find who was the top contender between them, now it's for a title. You won't hear me bitching about it, though. Paper title or not, fights like this between the up and coming talent at Middleweight need to happen and can help put the division back on the map. And, most importantly, it should be a hell of a fight. I'm leaning slightly towards Jacobs myself, but it's close to being a coin-flip type of fight for me. Pirog winning wouldn't surprise me at all.
there went something wrong with building up that sentence. the only fight i have seen with Pirog facing someone with decent skills and handspeed was Toygonbaev and Pirog looked anything but fluent based on that and on the first view i just tended to favor Jabcos here. I cant denie he looked technically fluent when he has fought seemingly dead opponents lately and has a solid skillset and improved his movements since that however hes still there to eat lefthooks..
Indeed. But with only 11 fights, I wouldn't expect him to be stepping up on the world stage for a while yet. Although, he won't waste too much time fighting nobodies due to his amateur experience. I reckon it will be at least another 5 or 6 fights before he moves from "prospect" into "contender" category.
Excellent news. This is the start of the changing of the gaurd at middleweight. I'm glad the US is finally going to see pirog in action. I promise he gains alot of fans in Vegas. I have him winning a 116-112 type decision over jacobs. Too much skill!
You've just exposed yourself as a euro hater pal. By that idiotic statement you just proved you've never seen him fight. You just assumed because he's russian that he fights in an orthodox stand-up style like a klit or kessler. Boy, you'll be surprised 7/31. I won't be though.
no i´m not a hater. i rate Golovkin as the best prospect at that weight and he is Kazakh :deal also comming up with old and already explained quotes is a bitchmove m8 :hey but sure i´d still be surprised if Pirog could handle Jacobs.
Nice to see this fight getting made. I'd have to pick Pirog in this though. He has the power to match Jacobs, and has decently quick hands as well as solid defense, all the while he has fought and dominated better opposition than what Jacobs has fought. Danny could win, but I think Dmitry has the better skill set and depth.
The big difference between 50 years ago and now is there was only one title per division and now there are 4 major ones alone. I see the titles as being substitutes for the top contenders. If you win a belt than you become a top contender. Of course it doesn't always work that way but I think it is an accurate gauge. If you look at most rankings I'd suspect that the belt holders rate towards the top of those divisions. But you are correct, the most important thing is that we get two young top middleweight prospects facing off.
