The winner will become GGG's WBA mandatory challenger. :chuck:

He probably gets promoted to become the new WBA "Regularly Screwed" Champion

What do you mean? His position remains unchanged. He is defending the "regular" championship in a couple of weeks. I don't think holding a subordinate version of the championship means you have to be considered the first-in-line mandatory for the "super" champ, does it?

With the interim & regular titles I think it does work that way, but the dynamic between regular & super might be different.

I like it alot. Great fight. Great opportunity for Sulecki. Good time for Jacobs to shine.

This is why they fight the fights.

Anyway, the Murata question aside, I'm happy with this development.

    Golovkin vs. either sounds good.

It should work that way. Mandatories are the guys who have worked themselves through the ranks to get a shot at #1. The regular is the #2 guy in the division. He should have that mandatory status.

I get what you're saying in theory, absolutely, but I'm just not sure that is the letter of the rules in actual practice. It could be, I'm just not sure.

Then again there is precedent for the WBA kind of making up the rules as they go along, so..

I don't know myself. But I'll never call the regular a world champion when there's a super champion in place. It just doesn't make sense.

The way I reconcile that contradiction, personally, is thinking of it as the same kind of delineation between different org representatives as "world champ".

ie when James DeGale fought Badou Jack, they were both "world super middleweight champions", the IBF and WBC respectively, and thus in a sense 'peers'. So for me the most palatable way to view it and have it make sense is to view the WBA regular and WBA super champ as, similarly, 'peers' - they're world champions in the same weight holding different hardware, even though it has the same three letters attached to it for both - and then when push comes to shove, the guy with the super is of course top dog in the hierarchy. The regular champ shouldn't ever be considered "the man" in the division when there's a super in the same org, even if the regular champ is perceived as being vastly superior to all 3 of the rival org champs (or even if people think he would beat the super champ h2h)

I could understand that if the WBA regular champion was somebody worthy of being a champion but half the time it's a guy who is contender at best. Especially true for the HW division in recent years. Hard to consider them peers.

I know but cmone! (i am kinda drunk atm)
I was hoping that Murata would eventually get a shot.
Tbe WBA promised 3 years ago that they would unify all the WBA belts. Now why are they looking for mandatories to the WBA super champ while the Regular champ excists?
