This unification is rumored to be slated for the supercard at Wembley in September pending CBS defending his WBO cruiserweight title successfully in his upcoming rematch with Riakporhe on Saturday. It would be Billam-Smith's third defense of that belt, and Opetaia's third of the IBF.

The presumptive defending champ would have a one inch height advantage over the unbeaten Samoan-Aussie southpaw, who is five years the Brits' junior. They have a combined 32 stoppages in 45 pro bouts.

Easy win for Opetaia. Mid-round stoppage after in dominant performance. People will see how good Briedis is in comparison, even this, 39 y.o. version

It’s gonna be a repeat of the Thompson fight. Smith is just a brawler with ok power, Jai tears him apart.

Comfortable win for Opetaia. Only question being whether it goes the distance.

I don't see how CBS has a chance, Jai Opetaia is crushing him in the late rounds...

Well, first things first, do we think CBS is even sure to beat Riakporhe this weekend? If not, we probably won't be getting Opetaia vs. Riakporhe, as the latter has ducked Opetaia before (withdrew from a purse bid last August, for which Smith has roasted him in the lead-up for their rematch).

The man might well have syphilis now, so CBS could have the beating of him this time around.

For some reason when I was little I always got syphilis and diphtheria mixed up (both old-timey bacterial diseases that are mostly non-present in the developed world now, and do have a bit of symptom overlap) and misremembered this Simpsons episode as referencing the latter, so my brain always goes straight to it upon hearing the word:

I like CBS a fair bit, he comes across as a really nice guy and he's shown a lot of heart... but he's also quite crude and was pretty lucky Masternak got injured last time out because that fight wasn't looking good for him. Hope he gives a good account of himself but he'll certainly be stopped.
