Former contender finalist Jaidon Codrington has informed Boxingtalk that he is a promotional free agent. Codrington, who has been out of action for the last two years, has only suffered two losses at the hands of world class 168 pound contenders Allan Green and Sakio Bika. "I feel the rest has done me good and I'm ready to get back into the ring as soon as possible. I also want you to put it out there that I plan on moving up to light heavyweight. I'm 25 years old and I've been making 168 since I was 14, my body is growing and I think it's time for me to move up," said Codrington.
Jaidon has a good punch and good skills but I fear his jaw will not be able to substain punch at 175lbs, he should stay at 168lbs or he will be badly beaten.
About time. The guy can definately bang, and he's got good speed and solid skills. His chin is still a bit of a worry even though he took punishment off Bika in the Contender final. He was out on his feet on a few occassions there though. Maybe the move up in weight will improve his chin, who knows? 168 is packed anyway, he's not going to get anywhere in a division that stacked.
I doubt he'll go far. Two years out of the game in the middle of your career indicates a lack of dedication.

Maybe moving up will improve his chin, but 175 is a much weaker division. Apart from Dawson, Pascal and Cloud it's almost completely dead. Codrington can hit hard and for that reason alone I'd give him a good chance against Shumenov. Of course he needs a few good wins before we can even consider him a contender at 175, but he has more of a chance there than at 168.
I don't know about this decisions. The brutal KO he suffered at the hands of green is the kind that ruins fighters. The he took a lot of punishment from Bika too. I don't think its worth it.
This is no good. People close to him urged him to retire after his last fight, so I don't understand why he's returning other than to cause himself further brain damage.
If he is coming back, it's a good thing he's doing it at 175 and not 168. He should be healthier at that weight and he's coming into a significantly worse division. Best of luck to him, even if it turns out to be a mistake.
Could he get by a CT scan? I wish him luck...but I see him spending a lot more time face down on the canvas or even worse, falling through the ropes out cold.
It's funny, even though he got knocked out brutally once and suffered a beating vs Bika, I wouldn't say that overall he's taken the level of punishment that other fighters currently fighting have been. It's not like he's been through 12 round wars or taken multiple, prolonged beatings. Whether he's healthy enough to pass any tests and be in good fighting condition is a good question though, because hell- Gerald McClellan didn't take many huge beatings, but his body just couldn't respond well against the couple of big punchers he did face. There's no way of knowing for sure which side of the line Codrington falls under; maybe he's got a couple good years left, maybe he's a ticking time bomb.
