Ya know, a lot of people think pretty highly of Green, but ever since he got a gift decision in his home town against Emmet Linton, I haven't considered him to have much real potential. Maybe "potential" is the wrong word. He does have some talent, but he also has some real serious flaws, and i have not seen him correct any of those flaws. He is another guy I think is destined to be an also ran, maybe a decent career, but never a legit world champion. Boo
When the hell did Bika become so good. I've watched a number of Bika's fights, way back in his early career (when he was fighting out of Australia). He's good, but NO WAY in hell a top tenner. There's just no way (and don't let that think that I'm not a fan or anything. Just a realist). Another obvservation... Those claiming Bika is better than he is seem to have a reason to do so (i.e. their fav fighter fought, and went the distance, with Bika) With that said, I don't Cordington is the future either. Although he is more skilled and imo athletic than Bika. His lack of chin and expierence will make him and Bika a pretty good scrap (I hope, anyway).
Some people are high on Bika because he gave good fights to some of the top fighters in the division. But that's probably only because he has an awkward style. After watching tapes of his fights with Calzaghe, Bute, Soliman, etc... Someone is bond to come up with a game plan to look good against this guy at some point.
Sakio Bika isn't so good because he caused problems to Joe or Lucian. He was so good because he managed to impose his own gameplan on opposition who always impose their own! He was awkward in a way that didn't allow you to box...You hit him and he doesn't back down - he hits you back and gives you that crazy smile. People think he isn't Top 10 because he isn't an elegant boxer and because he cheats...but Bika is a master infighter, holding, grabbing, hitting whilst holding, swinging hard at you when you have him cornered, with little regard for his own safety...the Bika of 2 years ago is not the Bika of today. He has improved massively and is still getting better. As he gains more confidence and experience he will make the life of everyone outside the Top 10 very difficult...he is a gatekeeper into the Top 10.
No one CAN look good against Sakio! Joe himself, a master of the dark arts was outplayed many a time by Bika...you cannot look good against him fighting on the outside because he will come in for you and get close and when you fight him inside, he grapples and smothers you, sapping you of all strength. And what is wrong with being a top 10 fighter JUST because you have an awkward style...Joe has an awkward style too - and this is why he is the best; if he was boxing like Stieglitz, he would not be the best.
I have changed my mind regarding the winner of the Contender final. It seems to me like Bika always starts strong but has a tendency to run out of air in the later rounds (probably because of all his muscles using up too much oxygen). He started strong against Beyer but we never got to see how the fight would have evolved, I had him winning 4 of the first 5 rounds against Bute, and against Soliman the same happened once more, he won the early rounds and looked more troubled in the last rounds. Considering the fight against Codrington is a 10 rounder, I think Codrington will win by a small but fair UD.
Bika only starts getting tired in the tenth round - and that only against top opposition. Bika to win.:hi:
Codrington looks scared when he is fighting... I just think Bika is going to be too strong for him..... I see Codrington backing up and Bika nailing him... I could be wrong though....
Everything perfect (including round 8), except the Bika having a great chin part. Codrington was taken out of his gameplan WAY early and while watching it I thought he would be out before 6, but it still ended before 9.5 so I won on the under. Damn, betting on a Tuesday makes you feel like you have a problem.. :think
:happy :happy :happy I had some money on this one too, huki, and then a good mate of mine said: put more - I did! Who would have thought that Bika can be dropped though...I am very surprised...what kind of a KD was it?:think
Sakio Bika is TOP 10 - and will gatekeep into the Top 10 very well indeed - he is afraid of NO ONE! He will fight ANYONE anywhere! He has massive heart and, man, does he go for it! Nice one, Sakio! Made me proud!:good
Bika knocked down Codrington in the first, but he didn't really hurt him.. it was more of Jaidon being off balanced and panicking. After he got up, he stood on the ropes and was blocking Bika's wide shots and then he opened up and countered with a big left hook right on Bika's chin that sent him to the canvas instantly. He was REALLY hurt. I still think he has a very solid chin, but he got caught with a big punch he really wasn't expecting by a guy who has pretty good power right on the chin. That round was exciting as hell, but people are going around calling this the fight of the year, when it was just a great brawl with one amazing round.
Sounds like the kind of shot that would have sent quite a few people with a very good chin down...I cannot wait to watch that round...:good
