Maybe, but he can be put into multiple wars and get ruined. He is super young and super powerful. He has star written all over him. His handlers would be wise to not rush him.
We'll see how he looks on Saturday. If he struggles with Smith, then obviously he should be kept away from a Hurd or Charlo. If he blows through Smith, or semi blows through him, then we'll have to consider his upside. Let's not forget, Hurd and Charlo are good fighters, but both are pretty flawed in their own ways.
I agree, but unless Munguia wants to be done by 26 and retire early, he has no reason to move too fast, too soon.
Lets see how he does, looked impressive and fun against Sadam Ali. Still only 21 years old, crazy. 29-0 w/ 25 KO's looks pretty sassy on paper, too. I fancy he will face some smaller, lesser, and/or faded guys for some defenses to generate some steam, and to even deserve it as I understand he has a belt but really Sadam Ali at 154 is it that special, before he faces a true top guy.
What’s funny is we all laughed and joked when Munguia was named as a GGG opponent. If Munguia smashes on Smith (beats him better and faster than Canelo) the hype will begin to grow. He’s def green and could well be a limited fighter. I’ll be watching Saturday fight with great interest!
Well it was funny because Munguia is only 21, was not a world champion yet, had never fought above 154, had no name opponent on his resume all while there was credible MWs as Golovkin opponents.
Munguia needs to hire a new trainer, Nacho Beristain, to improve Munguia's defense because he needs to keep his hands up.
What's more it's even possible that in future people will see GGG / Munguia as a harder fight than GGG / Derevyanchenko. Missed opportunity.
