    World Titles: Middleweight
    Quality of competition: 10
    Bouts vs. Top 50 opponents: 1
    Why He`s Here: Beat Ray Robinson when nobody else could and he was willing to take on the best black fighters of the era.
    What He Could have Done To Better His Ranking: Ducked Sugar Ray when he was champ. Do you feel any fighters since `96 could have also beating a prime middleweight Ray Robinson like Jake managed to once?

    Disagree with the placing but completely understand it - great fighter and is absolutely a fantastic win verus Robinson but I find it hard to rate it as highly as some others will solely due to the fact that he weighed so much more than SRR. La Motta with that kind of weight advantage was too strong for a SRR who actually got the best of their series.

    Eh...I kinda disagree. Perhaps he could amalgamate this list into one thread, but I do like discussing how individual fighters were rated twenty years ago by a major publication. And it serves as a nice break from the assortment of Marciano threads that currently populate the front page of Classic.

    Ranked much too high
    Beat SRR one out of six (one other was controversial) when he had a sixteen lb> weight advantage
    The fight would never be made today
