how long was lamotta considered the uncrowned middle weight champ? outside of the supposed mob, what else kept him from getting his shot at the title? without the interference when would he have won the title and how long should he have held the title? also due to his freeze out of the middleweight title why didnt he persue the lightheavy title he was fighting and beating the best of them at the time he was fighting for a chance at the middleweigfht crown?
"why didn't he pursue the lightheavy title" Perhaps it was his judgement that he really wasn't up to beating the better lightheavyweights such as Charles and Moore. He did defeat Reeves and Murphy, but lost 2 of 3 to Reeves, lost to Bolden, lost to Lloyd Marshall, was stopped by Murphy, and was stopped by Nardico. Satterfield was not yet a top man when he beat him. I think he might have had some sort of shot against Mills, a much lesser one against Lesnevich. I think there is very little indication off his record that he could have won the lightheavyweight title.
LaMotta would have gotten a shot at Maxim if not for Robinson deciding to challenge for the light heavyweight title. I think he would have probably beaten post-war Zale and Graziano, and he did beat Cerdan when it comes down to it.
Jake Lamotta, was a great middleweight for his times...Wily, and iron chinned he was...He for whatever reasons never got a shot for the title until 1949...Lamotta in 1949 , tko;d Marcel Cerdan in the tenth round..In the first round Lamotta wrestled Cerdan to the ground, damaging Cerdan's shoulder badly...The game Cerdan fought until the 10th round, before finally throwing in the towel...In a return match scheduled a few months later ' Cerdan was killed in a plane crash over yhe Azores Islands...I believe Cerdan would have won the rematch...Lamotta. tough as he was ,had no chance against the lightheavyweights Archie Moore, or Ezzard Charles...Lamotta knew his limitations....
The uncrowned champ of what? Not the best middleweight otherwise he wouldnt have multiple losses to Robinson and the Marshall loss, who ofcourse said Burley who'm Lamotta avoided would also beat him
