12 rounds @ 168. Who would win? Lamotta's more skilled but Froch has the size. With their chins this would ATG war
I think Jake though great is a little overated, and Froch is too Big. On even terms at a more honest time in boxing Carl is a L-HW and UP not down like today. Froch should beat him in a dominant points victory, ALTHOUGH Jake fought in the BEST Era against superior fighters, this might be the equalizer... So, who knows, I'll flip a coin.
Having seen LaMotta in the 40s, he would kick the living crap out of Froch and stop him. LaMotta WAS an alltime great, WAS NOT overrated and could fight ALL the current SUPERMIDDLES one week after the other and win all the fights and leave behind a bunch of hurt ribs and bruised egos. LaMotta would be the WORST matchup for Froch of all the middleweights champs besides Greb and Walker, methinks. It's Friday! Drink up boys!:drink
spring break! however, while i agree with your assessment of the fight (at least the winner), lamotta is overrated imo. he could be, and often was, outboxed. as far as i'm concerned he has at most one fixed fight, which leaves a decent number of clean losses. he was getting schooled by dauthuille before the KO (a great feat but we can't ignore the previous 14 rounds) and got bludgeoned by bob murphy (past prime admittedly). lamotta was a cutie with a great chin and decent dig to the body but lacked true power and mobility. froch isn't the fighter to outbox him but he certainly isn't a walkover either
he NEVER battered Cerdan... he beat an INJURED & Handicapped one armed fighter, who would have beat him the first time out nevermind the return!!!
tough fight for Froch who never came close to fighting someone as relentless as Lamotta I think the pace and the infighting take there toll for a UD or a late TKO for Jake
LaMotta, to me, is just one of those fighters you had to see in his prime. His tv fights show NOTHING of the prime LaMotta. NOBODY walks through or has an easy time with Jake LaMotta. Spring break, Fridays, your choice? Cool. weekends always have been and always will be a great time to quaff a few brews and watch the waves hit the beach. Start a beach fire, bring along the beach bunnies, hit the music and rock and roll.
fair point sir :good you sound like you saw him live? either way, the fights i've seen show skills that his record doesn't. but those skills don't quite live up to the reputation i've heard over the years. subtle skills, rolled with more punches than you'd imagine, judiscious body puncher...but hammered by a lack of mobility and relatively one dimensional style. still an easy all time great and one of the best middles ever and he proved it in one of the best middleweight periods ever. wish he had fought some of the black murderers row though to cement his place
Froch is too big, rangy and strong for Lamotta. Lamotta couldn't really hang at LHW and Froch is bigger than the LHWs he faced. Maybe Lamotta makes it competitive but he's just too small MODERN WEIGHT MAKING!!!!
Froch says himself he rarely strays far from 168. He's not humongous even if he looks it. Pascal on the other hand cuts from like, 190! Froch is super slow as well. And he can't fight on the inside for ****. So it's not cut and dry, even though I'd like to imagine Froch winning.
Froch never fought anybody as good as LaMotta..and Jake fought plenty who were equal to or better than Froch...Jake would rough him up, batter him, take anything dished out to him and win handily by a decision.
I would agree with this IF Froch was a MW, BUT by modern terms he IS NOT A MW of OLD, but rather a L-HW cum bigger... Jake DID fight in the BEST Era, and as I said this might be the difference, but in a honest scenario Froch IS Bigger and Jake did not do well UP, but rather better down, WWs cum MWs... so I feel Froch could pull it off, but as stated, I'd just as happily flip a coin at 50/50.
