This may also be the truthful difference. Although Ward was 176 against Dawson. Froch doesn't blow up to 180 IMO. Still, same day weigh ins just make for a much different idea of MW & SMW.
Yes, and LaMotta had a ton of fights -- many of them against some of his most significant opponents -- where he had a huge weight advantage. So what's your point?
I read somewhere that Lamotta have very fragile hands, that's why he preferred to attack the body. He did have power though. Knocked down Sugar Ray more than once if I'm not mistaken.
I think Jake beats them all but Ward may be a handful, time will tell how Ward fights a pressure fighter like Lamotta or it may not (there are no J L's around today) but I really like Ward so far as a top notch pedigree that is no where near his prime.
Lamotta wanted to fight Joe Louis and that was his dream but it would have turned into a nightmare...good for Jake it did not happen but he really feared no one
He wasnt a dynamic ko puncher - long term adversary and all round dirty ******* Fritzie Zivic said jake was the toughest ******* he'd ever fought ( and zivic fought everyone ) and would say later in his life if jake could've hit as hard as he could take it he'd still be the champion .
True - those guys were fighting every 3 or 4 weeks , often against some of the most dangerous and avoided men of the era - it was considered normal to pick up a few losses on the way up - part of the education , people often forget that jake was uncrowned MW champion for what would have been his peak years due to his unwillingness to throw in with 'the boys' and basically managed himself throughout his career . of the modern 168'ers mentioned theres only ward I cant see past .
The game has moved on. We have real athletes now. He would be decent rust belt or chowder circuit fighter who would never sniff a belt.
