Why have this at a catchweight? Lamotta was a big middleweight who also fought at light heavyweight.

Yeah I would go with Lamotta in this one. His body attack would slow Calzaghe down and there is no chance Calzaghe could hurt Lamotta.

You have to pick LaMotta by decision. At his best, only Sugar Ray Robinson was capable of beating LaMotta. Though LaMotta only won 1 of 6 fights with SRR, all but the last were very close.

Lamotta is too much of a man for Calzaghe

That's like comparing a nice little white boy to a tough italian american

The greatest of all time SRR had a hard time with Lamotta

Calzaghe was a matador and liked fighters who came to him. Too much skill for LaMotta. Wide UD.

LaMotta wouldn't be able to keep up with Calzaghe's work rate.
Would look like a sparring session.

tough call. not familiar enough with lamotta, but i think he was more of a slow brawler. if so, he's a stylistic mismatch for calzaghe, not to mention calzaghe is naturally bigger with a good chin and good stamina. he could probably decision Lamotta, though that's a big probably. Lamotta's experience against better opposition would most likely enable him to make the adjustment and brutalize calzaghe into submission.

You don't need to do it at a catchweight (unless you mean 170), 168 was fine for Jake, though he could certainly make it lower under modern rules.

Wouldn't the weight of 165 ish be very tough for Joe?

Not the biggest Calzaghe fan, but his length, speed, and boxing ability would guide him to a hard fought decision.
