Maxim. He easily handled Nardico and Murphy who gave LaMotta hell. Maxim was naturally 15 to 20 lbs heavier than LaMotta if he didn't have to make weight, and Joey is a very underrated "spoiler" type boxer.

i thought i read somewhere that lamotta said he would stick out his chin for maxim and felt he could whip him.lamotta was at the end of his rope when he got to nardico so that doesnt really count. murphy really gave him hell their foirst fight then jake beat him pretty good the second time around.i also dont know if maxim was really bigger than 15-20 lbs over lamotta because jake had a huge frame and fought light heavy lots of times(heck he even started as a light heavy and had a 21-0 amateur light heavy record) while being smaller than some of his opponents and he did fairly well over them.i see maxim outboxing him but i dont think he could stand the pressure jake would put on him and jake was good at coming on late(bell, daughtille ect) as he was pretty much indefatigable in his prime.this would be a good fight.

Though Lamotta was a big middleweight who could of fit in at the lightheavy limit(I tend to think if he fought today he would be a well balanced supermiddle)..Maxim was no small light heavy and he certainly would be the bigger man.
He only got down to lightheavy for his title fights..generally he fought 5-10 pounds over the lightheavy limit in his non-title fights. He also was clearly taller then Jake, by at least 3-4 inches I would say.

There is no doubting Maxim's durability in his prime..I would pick him to outpoint Lamotta fairly clearly, 10-5ish..And thats assuming Jake steps up when he is in his prime..not the faded Lamotta who beat some light heavy contenders late in his career.
