Jackson IS a BIG man and in Jake's time would have been fighting as a L-HW cum HW, so not a likely consideration. though if we had to pair them Jake would have went for it and suffered a lot of punishment in the process. could he have stayed with him, sure but can't see too many W's for the Bull here.
LaMotta by KO, in a slugfest.. I don't give a ****, how hard Jackson hits, Jake had a head of stone..
I seem to recall La Motta weighing 170 or something like that in a non title fight, so I don't think Jackson would have that much size over him, and he certainly isn't going to KO him. I'll go LaMotta pts.
Jackson never lost a fight on points. This fight will follow the same pattern. Jake takes hellacious shots, and sometime later in the fight, Jackson tires from the body shots, the incoming fire, his own output, just everything, and LaMotta will still be chugging along. Jake stages a late rally and gets him out of there. I will say that if anyone can knock him down and/or out, its Jackson.
Maybe the ultimate punch v chin matchup at the weight. I personally find it incredibly frustrating that I can't find more footage of Lamotta than what's available. Anyway, without making an outright prediction, it would depend on whether Jackson is able to outbox Lamotta. Although known for his power, it would be Jackson who is the boxer, with the shorter Lamotta coming in looking to get on the inside. Lamotta had a nice jab too though even doubled up on it quite a bit and Jackson was not exactly Ray Robinson, so I'm not even sure Jackson can outbox Lamotta. I think Jake can take Jackson's fearsome punches. Jackson was not known for his great combinations, and as long as Lamotta doesn't get plastered by Jackson all night, I think he can overcome single hard shots here and there. The man was amazingly tough. The pressure he brought inside could be the edge to get him the win. On the other hand, Jackson was a pretty decent fighter, so I don't see a clear cut winner here. I'm edging towards Lamotta because I believe Lamotta would be able to successfully apply pressure, but I wouldn't hang my hat on any prediction.
Sorry, but why do you say Jackson was a big man? He actually came up from jnr. middleweight to fight at middleweight, remember? He was fairly tall, but not bigger than Jake, who as noted was a big middleweight.
Jackson wasn't that big. He was an average size middle. Huge puncher though I don't think LaMotta is a good fight for him. Jake goes to the body early and grinds Julian into a fine powder. Mentally Jackson would have trouble with a guy who takes his best shot and shows no effects from it. I think LaMotta gets him out mid to late rounds.
Great assessment :good 50/50 but with a gun to my head have to go with lamotta, rounds 12-15 would be hell for Jackson
Not a good fight for Jackson. 90% of his fights ended in knockouts, and he's taking on a guy who was dropped once at the end of a 106-fight career? Bull by mid-late TKO.
I think this just comes down to sheer toughness La Motta stops him. Jackson would tee off on Jake early on but as the fight wore on to the mid rounds Julian would be discouraged due to his inability to make an impression on Jakes chin. Eventually La Motta's unrelenting body attack wears Jackson down inside 7 or 8 rounds.
