Benn at middle punches hard and fast. But jake s got a cast iron chin so can see Benn throwing some blistering punches early on at lamotta and jake may be even rocked several times. Benn s doing his best to get him out of there but jakes going no where, even waving Nigel in. By round 9 Benn s getting caught more and more when jake suddenly catches him guard down. Benns legs go and second s later he's down. Totally spent Nigel gets counted out.
It would be a fun fight to watch. It usually is when the sluggers fire off their bullets and have to resort to continuing on against a tough guy with empty chambers. Once they are the guy having to absorb to stay in there, they transition into about 50% effectiveness. And Nigel at 50% is not lasting against this opponent. But fun to watch while it lasts.
Lamotta would have to take some monster shots early on but that's what he did, especially at middleweight he would see off Nigel's frenzy and gradually wear him down. If it was at super middleweight I think it's a bit more up in the air, Benn was a lot cuter by then and paced himself better.
Pretty much agree here...I'd take LaMotta @ 160 probably by decision, possible late stop...but thinking @ 168...I'd go with Benn by decision.
LaMotta would have ridden out the worst and persevered to wear down and stop Benn....off topic, but Gene Fullmer would have done the same.
